Maleah Morales Cross Country Posted: Tuesday, July 15, 2025 GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The Florida Gators are proud to announce the addition of Cameron Ponder to its coaching staff. A decorated former student-athlete and coach, Ponder joins the program as an Assistant Coach for both the Track & Field and Cross Country programs. A native of Winston-Salem, North Carolina, Ponder joins the Gators after a successful stint at the University of Toledo, where he was instrumental in both the men's and women's teams capturing the 2024 Mid-American Conference (MAC) Cross Country Championships. Under his guidance, the Toledo women's team qualified for the NCAA Cross Country Championships, and several school records were shattered on the track in the Women's 800m, 1500m, Mile (Indoor), 3000m (Indoor), and 5000m. "We are excited to have Cameron join our staff," said Head Coach Mike Holloway. "His experience and knowledge in the recruiting and coaching areas will be a great asset to our programs." Ponder's journey as a standout distance runner began at Furman University, where he was named the 2021-22 Southern Conference Co-Male Athlete of the Year and earned back-to-back honors as Furman's Male Athlete of the Year in 2021 and 2022. On the national stage, Ponder was a First Team All-American in the indoor 3,000m in 2021 and a Second Team All-American in 2022. In cross country, Ponder was the 2021 Southern Conference Runner of the Year and the 2018 Southern Conference Freshman of the Year. He captured nine Southern Conference titles across cross country and track and was a four-time USTFCCCA All-Academic honoree. Ponder earned USTFCCCA All-Southeast Region honors in cross country and graduated from Furman with a bachelor's degree in Economics and Politics & International Affairs. Bikembo is a very good multi athlete and did finish 4th at the NCAA Indoor meet in the pentathlon. She will need some improvement with the two extra events to be a national contender in the heptathlon. She is also has an excellent HJ with a best of 5’10.5” and LJ with a best of 20’9.25”.
Ponder is a well regarded younger coach. I see that Samantha Palmer is no longer listed on the coaching staff, Ponder could well be a replacement. Will Palmer is still listed as the primary distance coach.

Jade Brown transfer from Arizona has signed on, 11.07 wind legal 100 meters. Competed at outdoors nationals but did not score. A outstanding addition for both the 100m and 4x100

    Well his best are 10.17 Windy 100 m and 20.50 200m .
Very good numbers but not great. I suspect Texas, like everyone else, is making decisions that will leave a lot of “very good” athletes without scholarships and NIL.

That absolutely plays a role in his coming to UF, he is on the cusp of great vs really good, and no one is better at taking athletes to the next level than Coach Holloway.

Gators Grab Two More National Titles on Day Three of USATF Championships
    Maleah Morales
Three more Gators secure spots on Team USA, including two national champions in Patterson and Moore.

EUGENE, Ore. - Three more Gators found their way on Team USA for the World Championships on day three of the USATF Championships.

Currently, six of Florida's finest have punched their ticket to Tokyo, three of which snagged national titles in the process. Jacory Patterson, Jasmine Moore, and Grace Stark are the newest Gators on Team USA, alongside heptathlon winner Anna Hall and long jump runner-up Claire Bryant.

Patterson came out hot in his 400m final, pushing his way in front with a 44.16-second run. His win earned him his first U.S. outdoor title, with a 0.27-second cushion over the runner-up. With the national championship under his belt, Patterson looks to add an outdoor world championship to a resume that already includes an indoor world title.

Jenoah McKiver lined up in the lane beside Patterson, fighting to secure a spot on Team USA. Despite a strong effort, he came up short, finishing fifth with a time of 45.16-seconds.

After a heartbreaking result in the long jump on day one, Jasmine Moore bounced back with a statement performance in the women's triple jump. She delivered six solid attempts, with her shortest jump of 13.99m surpassing the runner-up's best mark. Moore clinched the national title with a season-best of 14.68m, earning her spot on Team USA for the World Championships.

Grace Stark closed out the day in the 100mH final, where she walked away second overall on a 12.31-second finish and an automatic bid to the World Championships. Former Gator Brandee Johnson finished 15th overall in the semi-finals with a time of 13.24-seconds.

Reigning World Champion and two-time Olympic medalist Grant Holloway returned to the track for the men's 110mH. With his spot on Team USA already secured, Holloway took the race as an opportunity to stay sharp, cruising to a 13.15-second finish and claiming third overall. Current Gator Demaris Waters advanced to the men's 110mH semi-finals, with his time of 13.80-seconds. He finished seventh in the first heat and was 20th overall.

Five Gators are set to return to Hayward Field for the final day of the USATF Championships on Aug. 3. Robert Gregory will line up in the men's 200m semi-final, while Omar Craddock and Will Claye battle for Team USA spots in the triple jump. Holloway and Waters will close out their run in the men's 110m hurdles, with both the semi-finals and finals on the schedule.

    HOW TO WATCH
The 2025 USA Track and Field Outdoor and Para National Championships will air live on NBC Sports, Peacock and USATF.TV from Thursday through Sunday.

The full schedule for the USATF Championships can be found here.
