    This is a joke, right?!?

The U.S. Air Force said Thursday it would deny all transgender service members who have served between 15 and 18 years the option to retire early and would instead separate them without retirement benefits.

The move means that transgender service members will now be faced with the choice of either taking a lump-sum separation payment offered to junior troops or be removed from the service.

All transgender members of the Air Force are being separated from the service under the Trump administration's policies.

So typically you need to do 20 years to be eligible for retirement. I'm guessing that the issue here is that because these service members are being separated for a being transgender, it could be considered a medical condition and they would be eligible for a medical retirement. I would assume that anyone over 18 years is covered by sanctuary and will be eligible for a normal retirement. I think the article said about a dozen service members were notified of this, so I do not know if that is the total or not.

I'll be willing to bet that these individuals will eventually end up getting a medical retirement the next time the Democrats hold the trifecta in Washington.

Well, since our entire government right now is a circus act, what do you think it is?

Just downright mean do you have to be to do this to people that have served the military honorably and offered to put their lives at risk? Truly?
How can anyone continue to justify this lunacy? the entire admin policy agenda is “get even with those we don’t like”. Foreign countries, immigrants, trans folks, political enemies, reporters, the list is almost endless.
And the one thing they were actually hired to truly do by the segment in the relative middle around the economy, they are wrecking one moronic decision at a time. It’s insane.

Since they're currently be treated as if they if they have a medical condition which renders them unfit for continued service and are being involuntarily separated it wouldn't surprise me if a court determines that they're eligible for benefits.

Kind of hard to say we are separating you because you have a recognized medical condition that we now think prevents you from being able to serve and then turn around and say you do not get a medical retirement.

    Yeah. This isn't ok.

My opinion about trans people in the military notwithstanding, they served and are being forced out. They should get their benefits.

I may not agree with their lifestyle choice, but if they served our country for the time they were supposed to, and did so without court martial or any other problems, they deserve all their benefits...

This only applies to members who have 18 years or less (normal retirement is 20 years), but they are given a lump sum payout, are entitled to veterans benefits including medical and GI bill, and they will be given an honorable discharge. Having said that I’m sure this will be challenged in court, and that could change things.

Being forced out after 15+ years due to force reduction or for medical reasons would usually fall under early retirement.

If i'm not mistaken, these soldiers are being medically separated involuntarily and are being denied those retirement benefits.

They served honorably, they should receive their early retirement benefits.

It they want to stay, have served honorably, and are still physically able to serve, they shouldn’t be booted at all. It’s crazy how we have already moved the goal, posts past common decency.

If you are LGBTQ they don't want you to serve.
If you are non-white and/or female you can serve but will be passed over for promotions or busted down from top command positions.

By having law enforcement, ICE, and military recruitment get rid of those pesky "others" it seems a sure-fire way to solve the "young men falling behind in America" panic that's being frequently discussed in the media.

How far we are falling (and failing) -- decades and decades of patriotism and achievement being carelessly discarded by misguided ideas.

Their forced expulsion from the military is disgusting. If there was ever a mandatory military draft, most folks can just say they're transgender (whether they are or not) and be exempt. Good luck with that, Pentagon! This sets a bad precedent.

if I’m on a jury, I would award these folks compensatory damages and about $1 trillion in punitive damages.

trans people suffer from mental illness and definitely do not belong carrying a weapon- however, they probably should get medical benefits for their mental illness
