How dare we Americans celebrate any other heritage other than our own...Except when that other heritage is also majority white? Here's a pick from this year's Saint Patrick's Day parade in Chicago.

Maybe we should cancel it next year? Or make everyone attend take an oath that they are American first and lock up those who celebrate being Irish?

It's quite telling that some of these ??????-Americans express greater pride and love for some third-world nation in which they would never choose to live. They're either mentally unbalanced or just not very smart people. Or, perhaps they are lying.

Who do you think funded their campaigns? The best $2 million dollars the Cartels ever spent? Maybe, but if you don't like America first... GTHOOH... go back to that $hi!-hole you came from.

I just think we should all say a private thanks that Bill has a "trusted and approved" partisan news website in The Blaze, with news headlines salacious enough that he doesn't have to add his own color to reflect his true feelings.

Actually, thanks may not be the right word...

No one has a problem with LEGAL immigrants. It’s the illegal ones that are the problem.

Now I’ll sit back and wait for you to come back with all of the “seeking asylum” bullshit.

Please elaborate on how Irish Americans' immigrant ancestors arrived in this country legally. I dare you.

Republicans have a problem with legal immigrants unless they are white South Africans it seems. They've gone out of their way to turn people with legal status into candidates for deportation. A mod just started a thread calling someone an "anchor baby!" Does anyone believe this line from conservatives anymore?

Are you referencing Irish-American immigrants that arrived before 1875 or after 1874?

This thread isn't about immigration, per se. It's about heritage and being proud of your ancestry, even if you live in America now. It's not a new phenomenon to hold onto your past heritage and be proud of it, even if you're an American citizen. I posted a pic from the Chicago Saint Patrick's Day parade as an example.

Need more? Here's a picture from the Phoenix Cinco de Mayo festival. About 2.25 million residents of Arizona have an Hispanic heritage. The majority are citizens. Are they not allowed to celebrate their Mexican heritage? Heck, Cinco de Mayo in Mexico is a small, regional celebration in Puebla, and is bigger in the States.

We are a nation of immigrants. We grew up calling it melting pot, but a better metaphor is a stir fry. A bunch of ingredients that keep their individual flavors, but as a whole, make a great meal. And what's wrong with that?

Let's go with before 1882. How were so many millions of immigrants able to come here "legally?"

As I understand it, there was no law prohibiting their moving to the US. So, they moved to the US many times with the blessing of the state and federal governments. In the absence of federal laws prohibiting the immigration of Irish peoples to the US and applying the legal concept of “everything which is not forbidden is allowed" one can reasonably conclude the Irish immigrants were in the US legally.

I assume she prefers Guatemala over the US based on her comment so my question is why not go back to her home land? You bitch about the way things are in America and if you are Guatemalan first, then go back.

It’s like all these idiots from other countries protesting. If you don’t like it in the US, get the hell back home.

I have several generations of my family tree not a single member was a recent immigrant. There are a couple of Scandinavian immigrants that came here in the 1700s. So I simply consider myself an American. I have no country of origin other than the good ol USA.

Nothing wrong with that. But I be the 0 generation and 1st generation American were much more Scandinavian than "American." And you probably have something left from your heritage, like a recipe or family tradition that you keep.

I too have little ethnic home country I wish to identify with. I'm Eastern European Jewish, and my family was fortunate to escape between the 1880s and WWI. I have a few relatives that escaped too and ended up in England, never crossing the pond, and a few who survived who ended up in Israel. But I can make a mean set of latkes, a great roast brisket, and mondelbread for dessert.

My wife, on the other hand, identifies still as part Scotch-Irish, despite her family coming over during the potato famine.

It's part of our American story is that we're from everywhere. It's almost uniquely American, and instead of disparaging our diversity, we should embrace and enjoy it.
