Trump Imposes Sweeping Global Tariffs With Minimum Rate of 10% President Donald Trump announced a slew of new tariffs, including a 10% global minimum and 15% or higher duties for countries with trade surpluses with the US, forging ahead with his turbulent effort to reshape international commerce. The baseline rates for many trading partners remain unchanged from the duties Trump imposed in April, which may soothe investors’ worst fears after the president had previously said they could even double. Yet his move to raise tariffs on Canadian goods to 35% threatens to inject fresh tensions into an already strained relationship. Most of the tariffs will take effect after midnight on Aug. 7, to allow time for US Customs and Border Protection to make necessary changes to collect the levies. Trump signed the directive just hours before his prior Aug. 1 deadline for higher tariffs to kick in on scores of trading partners. Ha, he gave up. Super complicated, that dastardly global economy. Ugh, just 10% all over!! It’s like healthcare all over again. I was told there would be no math….
While we’re on the subject, the CPI is significantly up this year. And with it, the bankruptcy courts just announced a double digit increase in bankruptcy filings. but … yay team.
Are you Catholic Okie? Priest: "...let us give thanks to the Lord our God..." Congregation: "...it is right and just". Under my roof and other minor repairs | Salt + Light Media ...just wondering...
I am not. That is interesting though. After this move, however, I might be better suited as a Trumpolic.
I feel like a dying breed. An anti-tariff Republican. I know there used to be a lot of us. Free trade used to be considered a fiscally conservative position. Now you’re a RINO if you’re a Republican who believes in it.
This is how I feel as well. Then I remind myself that Trump is not a Republican but a lifelong liberal democrat from New York who only switched to parties to get back at Obama.
Although I would agree that Trump switched parties to get back at Obana and that he may have been registered as a Democrat at one time he was never a liberal. Keep in mind that Trump ran a full page ad in the NY Times in effect calling for the execution of the latter exonerated Central Park Five and along with his father was a defendant in the largest housing discrimination lawsuit in history. Trump never really had a coherent political philosophy his positions have always been based on what benefited Donald Trump personally. Trump also had a long history of hiring undocumented immigrants and he continued to employ them even after he made illegal immigration a cornerstone of his 2016 presidential campaign.
I thought Tr Actually, Trump has changed his party affiliations five times in his lifetime. He would switch at the drop of a hat if there was an opportunity to improve his social standing. Trump registered as a republican in 1987. He joined the Independence Party of New York in 1999. He registered as a democrat in 2001. Trump rejoined the Republican Party in 2009 (likely after the horror of seeing a black man elected president). Then he became an independent in 2011. Then in 2012 he became a republican again. He seems to be comforted at times by the financial success that some democrats have had, and by racist undertones that some republican leaders have had. He also noted that bad things sometimes seem to happen with republicans in charge (2008 economic collapse). Trump also continued to donate money to democrat candidates (in small amounts) even up to 2014. He even contributed to Kamala Harris' Senate campaign, even though he later described her as a low-I.Q. person. Even Trump's political views varied greatly depending on whether he was talking to democrats or republicans. Donald Trump was once a registered Democrat and party donor. So why did he jump ship?
Trump's a lifelong Trump's only true conviction is whatever benefits him the most personally. His politics are based on who he can scam the easiest. That is clearly right-wingers, so that's why Trump's a Republican.
