Indeed. But at least we’re finally discussing making it in India’s interest not to enable Russia. Long overdue. Starting with their abstaining from the UN resolution to declare Russia in breach of the peace in 2022, India has failed to stand with the world’s liberal democracies and has supported Russia indirectly. When called it on (mildly), India has done no more than shrug and say, “It’s in our interest.” Well, if self-interest is all India will respond to, then let’s start making it in their interest to finally do the right things.

Congrats to Chasov Yar for becoming militarily insignificant.

You do get that when a defender realizes what your tactical objectives are for over a year, that gives them time to change the battlefield to take away the military significance of that objective are, correct?

If Russians do it it is called retreating. If Ukrainians do it it’s called changing the battlefield to take away military significance.

Why has Chasiv Yar important in the first place? Any objectives the AFU has been trying to capture for a year plus?

Punishing India with 25% tariffs, purportedly because of their economic ties to Russia would probably carry more weight if we didn’t just punish Canada with 35% tariffs. It’s just sort of lost in the wash and meaningless imo. If India ceased all Russian gas purchases, the tariffs would still likely have to be 15% or 20% just to be in line with how this regime views trade as a bad thing.

If we can’t beat Russia maybe we can beat down Canada which has more working submarines in the West Edmonton Mall than in its navy.

You do not think the US could not wipe the floor with Russia at this point? Not sure what reality you are existing in.

More than adequate to explain why no ten armies combined could take Ukraine in short order …

“The first official death toll from Russia’s aerial bombardment of Ukraine’s capital early Thursday stood at six, including Matviy Marchenko, a 6-year-old boy who died in an ambulance.

By Friday morning, more than a day after the missile-and-drone assaults, rescuers sifting through the rubble of collapsed buildings had raised the total killed to 31, making the strikes one of the worst bombardments of Russia’s 3½ year war. The dead included four more children, one of them two years old.“

I agree, but I’ll take it for now. We need to also offer the carrot of replacing their fecal Russian military technology with something that the Chinese won’t just wipe out on Day 1 of any conflict.
