By: Nick Marcinko -- July 28, 2025 Nick, any chance that Russ has full autonomy on calling plays this year?? Pretty sure he allows Ron Roberts to call the game, correct? Will we be adding any players before Fall camp? Maybe a grad transfer on the d-line?? I thought when he got hurt, Jamari Lyons looked like the light was coming on. Does he still have the same quickness and agility? Who ends up as the 3rd RB? Does Amir Jackson make a leap this year and become a weapon at TE/Hback? Based on the talent of the player and the depth at his position, which 5 players can the Gators least afford to lose to a serious injury ranked 1-5 with 1 being the most indispensable? I'm not sure that I like position coaches (tight ends coach) calling plays... That seems like a HUGE conflict of interest. Having said that... in this case, I'm sure Napier and Callaway are on the same (tight end loving) page… I doubt we see too many 10 and 00 personnel plays. All I'd like to see is five or six 10 or 00 personnel plays a game. That's not too much to ask for, is it? I don't care as much about more receivers getting touches, not more than winning. As long as we win, I can live with it... Just call the game winners!
The best use for us came in the LSU game in the fourth quarter, when Lagway tossed a delayed pass up the middle to Hanson for a first down. That play was perfectly timed and executed. But one play, that I can remember, is not enough. We should try more 10 and 00 personnel plays.
Hanson is not an elite pass catching te. Hes a good player but not that kind of threat. I think Napiers offense would benefit from an elite pass catcher and a qb that utilizes the position.
I think everyone that likes the 12 personnel are thinking about how well UGA used that set scheme... They had two NFL tight ends, that's why it worked out so well for them. So, yes, we need upgrades at that position, but if you have crafty play designs... Hanson is good enough. Maybe we need to use him more, it works best to use our TEs when the defense is NOT expecting it. Being unpredicable in play calling goes a long way... it hides some position talent shortfalls. Having said that, I think Hanson is fine and good enough to be successful. He is NOT talent deficient.
