The federal government will accept Venmo payments from citizens who want to help pay off the national debt.

The Treasury has begun accepting Venmo transactions as contributions toward the national debt, which currently stands at $36 trillion.

Democrats that want to pay more in taxes can now pay down the debt. So they don’t have to complain about Trumps tax cuts. They can’t complain if they don’t pay more.

You can now Venmo the government to help pay off national debt

So that means that you don't think the debt is a problem? Funny how fast that happened.

It’s a problem but Tariffs are bringing in a surplus. So before liberals complain, they better start paying down the debt.

So it is a problem? Cool. So, are you planning on paying it, ignoring the problem, or just complaining about it while not paying it?

Also, what is this surplus over the past two months combined, specifically?

I have been complaining about the debt since Reagan was President. I argued that after 9/11 Bush should have suspended the tax cuts to finance the war against UBL and they were put back into effect after the war was over.

Were you voicing your strong opposition to Trump's Deficit Funded Tax Cuts for the Rich Bill?

Crazy - guy added appx $4.5 trillion in tax cuts and $3.5 trillion to the debt ...... and got it to pass by cutting about $1 trillion in services to people, including the most vulnerable among us.

    Can you imagine supporting that?!

This is great. All the people that were against tax cuts because it increase the debt can donate the extra money to the debt and find something else to complain about

We've always had tariff income as long as we've had tariffs. You DO realize that we pay for them right? I mean if you don't know that by now, you're too far gone.
Don't tell me the corporations are eating them, that's a lie. The smaller businesses are going out of business because they weren't prepared to pre order.

So, let's cut our tax income instead of increasing it on the most wealthy amongst us and offer the public a venmo so we can pay even more? Get outta here with that. Double bird incoming.

Typical Democrat. You obviously don’t realize higher tariffs creates more domestic jobs. You don’t realize that higher tariffs protects US companies and makes them more competitive to foreign imports. Democrats created NAFTA, which destroyed US companies and sent all of our manufacturing jobs to Mexico and Canada.

I guess you rather have all of the manufacturing jobs overseas instead of in the United States. You obviously haven’t traveled through the Midwest and the south where you will find the rust belt and cities that were once thriving that are now ghost towns because all of the manufacturing jobs went to foreign countries since we are getting ripped off. You don’t have any idea what foreign countries were charging US companies in Tariff's to export to foreign countries? You rather buy cheap Chinese products than buy US products. You obviously don’t give a crap as to whether US can compete and export US products to foreign countries. But go ahead and spout your typical CNN and Democrat narrative.

Hmm, do they now? What is the evidence to back this statement across the entire economy? Because trade wars generally harm employment.

Tariffs are 'lose-lose' for U.S. jobs and industry, economist says: 'There are no winners here'

And how do they do that? By lowering their competition and increasing prices on consumers?

NAFTA was bipartisan. And dramatically lowered prices on consumers.

Wow, you really don't like consumers, huh? And tariffs in most countries are quite low, despite what Trump has told you.

Brilliant. So one economist from CNBC knows everything. CNBC is more wrong than right. Look at their headlines months ago compared to recent headlines.

Give me a country by country breakdown that shows US Exports were being charged a lower tariff by that foreign country than what the US was charging in tariffs for that country’s exports into the US. I will wait.

In 2023, U.S. manufacturing output as a share of global manufacturing output was 17.4%, down from 28.4% in 2001.

I guess Democrats would prefer that number to be reduced to 0% so long as you get welfare to sit home.

Simple economics. The ability of US companies exports increases jobs. Obviously CNN didn’t teach you that. Or should I say CNBC.

The economist isn't from CNBC. Did you read the article?

Sure. Here is the impact of NAFTA on tariff rates. Canada ended up with lower rates, while Mexico had very similar rates, with all of the rates dramatically lowered.

    https://www.researchgate.net/figure/Tariff-Rates-in-the-US-Canada-and-Mexico_fig5_265430596

As a reminder, many other countries had agreed to zero out their tariffs as part of TPP, but Trump cancelled that.

So? What was the change in real per capita GDP over that time? Oh right, we grew from about $50K per capita to about $67K. So the average American is better off by about 34% over that time. Sounds rough.

The ability of US companies to import products also increases jobs. That is why we have had some of the lowest unemployment rates in US history over the last 15 years. Outside of Covid, we have been at what economists refer to as full employment for about a decade.

Of course, my economics degrees taught me that.

Tax cuts don't rack up debt... SPENDING, OVER-SPENDING racks up debt.

One of these days you will understand that concept. Budgets, living within our means, is another concept you might want to look up.
