Poster A: I really like Alan Dershowitz.
92: Dershowitz is horrible. I'd rather die by elephant farts than listen to him lawyer.
Poster B: Yeah, we've seen 92 lawyer and he sucks at it.

Poster B is critiquing your lawyering, not you, so it's not offensive right?

    BTW - it ain't Q's music.

That one is right up Q's alley - nice.

The abstract dog barks at the end are the best part.

Thanks - I MUST remember to watch this when I have time.

as good a place as any. I have chosen my album of summer 2025. Yeah, it's from 1994, but it is my soundtrack to summer. Other than the tune, sometimes, always, I don't think I was familiar with post 1990 JAMC. IMO, poppy, jangily & summery....the opposite of what I think of wrt this band. Oh, & more tambourines than a full season of The Partridge family. Sounds a bit like Teenage Fanclub imo.

I think JaMC have exactly 1 album where they sound like what they are supposed to sound like (Pyschocandy)

wrt criticizing music, IMO we need more of it...meaning negativeness. This guys does a great job. He write everything on this on webpage...& is a great source of review, discovery & info. & he's a great writer. Every now & again, he pulls out some epic rants. a taste.

until recently, I didn't appreciate their sonic range & did kinda always think noisey, fuzzy feedback. The tunes on PC are pop tunes underneath it all. 2 gems I recently found of thiers.

I think we are living in a post-taste world to some degree. If I can just download whatever I feel like on apple music, there is really no cost as opposed to budgeting for the couple of albums you want to spend money on that week. In some ways its good, you can take chances you normally wouldn't take on stuff without buyers remorse, but I find I spend a lot less time with individual records than I did years ago because its on to the next thing so fast. Criticism is perhaps more important when money is at stake IMO, but given the sheer volume of music its still something we need just to navigate everything out there.

As far as writing about music goes, this is tremendous. I it read it three times in a row & have read it many times over the last few years. Guy is a big fan of Gville band the Vulgar Boatmen.

I think Darklands was my favorite of theirs. They basically did Pyschocandy stripped of the noise and feedback, they hit on something that always gets me.

The Raveonettes totally ripped them off, but this record is one I go back to:

Maybe I'm a terrible close reader and missed something, but I cant believe Material Issue wasnt mentioned in this piece. I think Phair was friendly with them and Urge?

    Huh?

You want to compare me posting a thread like this (which I have done others) to a thread of me making fun of the stupidity happening back in 2021 (which I have done others)?

Two completely different threads with two completely different purposes. But glad you are stuck on Covid apparently…:confused:o_O

Music Criticism was prob my favorite class in terminal degree. I attended a recital by my former trumpet teacher, who completely shat the bed, and composed an honest review for the class. Prof was a musicologist and the review remained private. Next Monday I see the crit prof in the hallway and he says "I enjoyed your review." He was not known for giving compliments.
Anyway, criticism esp. in the classical world is a dwindling art form. The writers tend to be highly competent musicians who study scores thoroughly prior to attending performances. During the Ph.D. I flew to Chicago for a musical vacay and heard the symphony. Was able to pick up the Tribune at the airport the next day and read the review of the concert I attended. Good times.

1 of my besties & a guy I love going to shows with absolutely loves ween. Hence, I've become sorta a jr fan & have seen em maybe 5 times. He turned me on to this. In fact, I listened to some today while driving around. This is an acquired taste that I suspect most will never acquire. It is Ween + Japanese band, the boredoms.

Edit. This is a diff friend. He went to HS with Dean & fishes with him from time to time. A pic he sent
