Trump Insists Washington Commanders Revert to Redskins

I heard from a reliable source that Trump wants all of the restaurants that were formerly known as Sambo’s to either change their names back to Sambo’s or, if that is deemed to be too inappropriate, to Bob’s Jew Boy. I would be okay with the latter if we could get a really good pastrami sandwich in Tampa. By the way, I am Jewish, so no banning me.

 

Yeah, well all the principles stuff was way back before the Commanders coughed up $3B. Even Worse Than Jerry Jones was still the owner and the stadium deal really had no traction other than the same old status it was stuck in forever when she was a stalwart for justice.

But the new owners weren’t messing around and got that deal done (or at least on the doorstep.) It also appears that Bowser is counting on ownership to stay the course, making the point moot. So no need to fight it or make Homelander more emotional. Just “whatevs” and get the next step done. The NFL may be the one industry immune to power mad politicians.

While the always amusing “Obama did it” was on full display on this thread, what really did it was what always does: money. It was FedEx, Pepsi, Nike, and a bunch of investment firms repping something like $10^12 that convinced Snyder to change the name after 1000 defiant “NEVERS!!!” before.

Harris is one of those investment guys, that’s how he made his billions initially. A bunch of other investment firms also have minority stakes. Magic Johnson is also an owner.

And that’s how it will stay unless the money reverses flow. Which is why Homelander went straight to that tactic. While Obama just has to suggest merely “thinking about” changing the name, thus “forcing” it to happen SEVEN years later after even Trump himself was POTUS, Trump has to immediately deploy nukes even though he’ll be around (well, his admin) for almost a full four more. Or maybe, just maybe, the corporate overlords run the show, as always.

Of course DJT would be an idiot to make this representative of what he calls the work of a POTUS. Which normally would rule it out past the theater already put on display. But this guy is def special, so we’ll see.

And the sponsors did not force the change, Fred Smith did when he spilled the goods on Snyder.

I never understood the name change in the first place- however, I do not think Trump should insert himself on this issue

 

Snyder got caught withholding profits from his minority partners, one of whom was Fred Smith. Smith got upset and told Snyder he needed to either sell the minority partners the team or buy them out. Snyder had to go borrow a large about of money from the NFL, above what NFL By Laws say you can borrow, and bought out the minority partners. Smith withdrew FedEx as a sponsor of the Redskins and then leak the fact the Redskins had a very big problem with sexual harassment in the organization, which the NFL then investigated. The combination of the loan amount and the investigation had put so much pressure on Snyder to sell, that he thought changing the name would save him. In the end, it wasn't and the NFL forced him to sell because he was in violation of NFL By Law with the loan he took out.
