Good point on why Trump is all of a sudden bringing this up. it’s a reminder how he thrives on dividing our country and creating drama. It’s been his SOP since “coming down the escalator”
That would seem like the decent thing to do, but I am not sure how likely that is. I always understood that the Seminole Tribe, or at least its leadership, was ok with the nickname.
"Have to" ? Or "should"? Probably a matter of opinion, right? Certainly not something the damn President of the United States should threaten F$U over, either way, though, right? Pretty absurd and vile that the damn President of the United States did choose to stir up racially-based animosity solely to stoke his BS culture wars wrt the Commanders, right? That's your guy, isn't he? What a great leader. We should all be proud. Wonder what's next; lies about FEMA funds going to illegal immigrants?
Coming soon . . . the Baltimore Blackskins and the SanFrancisco Yellows. These names, after all, serve as rallying points for AAs and Asians, yes?
I don't want to re-argue the past debate about the name change, but to point out the inappropriateness of Trump trying to enforce his opinion with legal and financial threats. WTHeck? It's a sports team name, not foreign affairs negotiations. Do the MAGAs here think this falls under presidential entitlement, or is he way off base here?
They like what Trump likes. He knows best on things like this everything, and using presidential power to coerce an NFL team wrt it's name is A-OK! Also, things were great when MAGAs were kids. And also the Seminoles.
Not sure. It doesn’t seem as derogatory as basing the team name on the perceived skin color of a race. But ultimately Seminoles should have the “rights” to their name. Supposedly FSU attempts to work with them. but the issue here is Trump deliberately restarting this fight. And using the power of potus with threats to enforce his opinion.
I never said a thing about the President. I was asking a question about the f$u nickname. Strong in you, TDS is.
I dont think there's anything wrong with the name, its more like all the other cringy stuff that comes with it. The tomahawk chop, people dressing up like Native Americans throwing spears and stuff. Maybe there is a right way to do it, but drunken frat kids doing the chop or painting their faces is never going to be it.
If the Seminole tribe did some day change their mind about the nickname it would probably be for the reasons you listed. Not the name itself, but the ridiculous behavior of the fans.
I remember going to an FSU game as a kid and there was an Native American protesting out front. The tribal leadership probably plays ball to an extent because of its other interests (like gambling cough, cough), but their reasons are probably different from people who are descendants of the Seminoles, and dont have to care about Florida politics.
Yes, clearly you didn't mention the President's un-American conduct. Because you are subtly trying to shift the subject away from acknowledging reality, and towards a hypothetical. There is an actual reality to discuss though. Strong in you, the gaslighting is. (Also, I think the thread is actually ..... [checks title] ...... about Trump. So referencing, uh, Trump here ..... wouldn't really be having TDS. Strong in you, the off-topic comments are.)
First, never wrote anything about Trump or his tweets or whatever. Frankly, I have no interest in that as it concerns the mascot name discussion. But, clearly, Trump lives in your brain rent free. Second, you must be a real joy at cocktail parties.
First, yes. Yes, you did never mention Trump .... who is the very subject of this thread. (See the title). Why? Because you are endeavoring to engage in some low-level gaslighting. The subject of this thread is the vile, un-American behavior of the person you support. So very sorry, but your choosing to ignore it doesn't make it not reality. You too must be fabulous at parties - where people crave being deceived, and a false reality is celebrated.
Ummm. Yea. So how are the kids? Sorry, was that too cis-normal or whatever? I know this platform invites hypersensitive replies to anything and everything (admittedly, I'm guilty on occasion). But, once in a while, people can just post thoughts/stories like normal humans. I'm guessing that most, if not all, of us wouldn't talk this way if we met in person. At least, one can hope.
Your attempt at normalizing presidential abuse of power is amusing. That was the topic of the thread, yes? Or did you want to gaslight by talking about the kids and directing a subtle, yet hurtful, insult at me about 'cis-normal" or something? I'm sorry that it disturbs you to have pointed out the un-American vileness you support ... in a thread on that topic. Please stay on topic though, this isn't your dinner party with kids where you can laugh about the January 6th rioters who were "ushered in." In other words, the truth matters here, if not in your other safe spaces.
