^ Absolutely. As is engaging on the thread ...... but instead of addressing the substance of the issue, simply pretending that the issue didn't happen. And doing so repeatedly on mumerous threads. It's no different, really, than literally pretending the objectionable* actions of the Trump Administration aren't happening ..... but then pretending to be an engaged, equal-minded person participating in honest discourse. * "Objectionable" being a diplomatic descriptor. "Unconstitutional" being much more accurate, and "criminal" probably the most accurate of all.
That letter absolutely had the implied effect of impacting funding. Everyone knew it so the Obama Admin did not have to say it. Like I described, they were very subtle. Trump is a bully and is anything but subtle. I’d also agree that he is pushing things much further than any previous Admin in recent history.
I wrongly assumed this was a story in the Onion. You guys are so hard to figure out these days. Aren't there marginally more important things going on in the world that you guys could help tend to?
Yucky. It ain’t we guys. It’s one guy who fooled a crowd of idiots and only succeeded cause the other side got lazy, stupid and greedy.
It's kind of an interesting story at the intersection of politics and sports. The House could in fact require DC to make a stadium deal with the team regardless of the name. However, it is likely that the next time the House changed hands, likely before 2030, the Democrats would allow DC to undo the deal. The question is if DC would want to at that point since work on the stadium would likely already be underway.
Take back the colonies? Seems like Trumpists want a king anyways. And us lefties get our national healthcare. Its a win win.
First question to ask - does a city, town, school, etc. select a mascot name/logo to generate positive energy/support or to denigrate? Vikings, Irish, Redskins, Gators, Wildcats, Rebels, Niners, Cardinals, Seminoles, Boilermakers, Steelers, Packers, Hurricanes, Oilers, etc. Names/mascots/logos are rallying points for the team/local community based on the positive aspects of those names/mascots/logos. Strength, pride, determination, excitement, etc. Some are obvious, others are locally appreciated. Cities, schools, etc. don't want to cheer for losers. This post-modern/PC navel-gazing about names/mascots is a reflection of people who have nothing else to do but complain and act like they are enlightened - unlike the unwashed masses that they deride. Lived in the DC area for several years and still visit often each year. The Redskins fans want their team back based upon those I've met.
Weird discourse. And "Redskins" is somehow particularly meaningful to the Washington DC area and "generates positive support" how? Wrong. Many sports monikers were changed due to overt racist meanings, or undertones. And if you want to see someone who has "nothing else to do but complain and act like they are enlightened" just take a peek at that guy who is supposed to be leading our country ...... instead of tweeting from his commode about sports team names. As far as deriding "unwashed masses", well, at least you have a shred of accuracy in your post. And sometimes that's a pretty appropriate thing to do, such as when those masses support a felon, or a time-wasting, bullying pseudo-president who wants to deflect from real issues with meaningless culture war bullshit. Your anecdotal evidence is truly (not) insightful. Fortunately, though, some real data exists. In April 2025, a Washington Post-Schar School poll of 1,667 D.C.-area residents found that 50% liked or loved "Commanders." Thirty-six percent said they disliked or hated the name and 15% expressed no opinion or skipped the question. Poll data doesn’t support undoing Commanders’ name change
Redskins is a horrible name, and I don't know why it was chosen in the first place. Other than the capital of the nation that displaced them from their hereditary lands, what have Indians got to do with Washington DC? And it's a bonafide slur, not a PC nitpick. You don't have to be an elitist to recognize that it's an insult. The Commanders are a fine name for a team, and relevant to the area. I've lived in the DC area for 28 years, and most of the people I know accept and/or prefer the change. As far as acceptance goes, it doesn't hurt that the Redskins have stunk it up for the last 25 years, while the Commanders put on a show worth watching last season.
Unlike high school or college I would think it’s up to the owner to make final decision on the team name. Well, until trump is now making threats. This was a dead issue, but trump preached to maga this is a culture war they need to get upset over (and stop worrying about his close ties to Epstein). those you met and mentioned they prefer “Redskins” appear to be in a minority per poll below. “2024: Not much changed in two years, per D.C.-area resident polling …..49% hated or disliked the Commanders name while 34% liked or loved it. Seventeen percent reported no opinion or skipped the question. The survey also asked D.C.-area sports fans to select their preferred name for the team: 19% picked Commanders, 16% picked Washington Football Team, 16% picked the Redskins and 16% picked another name while the remaining people expressed no opinion or skipped the question. “ Poll data doesn’t support undoing Commanders’ name change
Ibid. And further proof of my point that some people have a compulsion to create an "issue" where none existed just to make everything about politics and their need to feel superior. I hated the Redskins - not because of the name, but because I grew up a Cowboys fan. Never once did anyone say that was due to racial bias or anything else. Just sports teams and rivalries. That said, the Redskins mascot (as well as the Seminoles - ugghh) is pretty freaking cool - tough, hard-fighting, clever, etc. Much better than stupid, lazy Bulldogs.
I think its strange that more people complained about "PC" when changing racist team names and logos than when the Washington Bullets changed their name to the Wizards or various other name changes/rebrands that have been done in the last couple of decades.
I couldn't agree more!! So why do you think that clown was creating a silly culture war issue by tweeting about team names from his commode? Nothing better to do? Imagine supporting a trusted (LOL) official who wastes time on that crap. Your anecdotal experiences are always so meaningful totally irrelevant. The fact that a name is clearly racially insensitive has absolutely nothing to do with your personal experiences as a child. Super interesting story though! Dude, your opinions on mascots are totally the best - why have you waited so long to share them with us?!!! "Redskin" is just a dated pejorative term for Native American, though. As "Seminole" is a tribe and "bulldog" is an animal. Your personal feelings on them, accurate or not, are relevant to ......well, nothing. As always, it's so strange to see an educated, good debater such as yourself voluntarily ensure a loss by staking out such a losing position - defending a hate-mongering, bullying felon who is trying to stoke culture wars. You do you though. I guess it must be fun to wear the made-in-China red hat or something.
