What would be wrong with that? My great grandparents showed up on Ellis Island unannounced and were given a path to citizenship. Our country is built on immigration. We had a bill that would have streamlined the process. People are trying to do it the right way, it’s the system that is making it next to impossible.

No, back then they just paid to get on the boat. Some didn't even have identification. Their paperwork would be stamped with W.O.P = With Out Papers. When they got here they were looked over by a doctor and had to answer questions about the US. Questions a lot of maga couldn't answer

How many they had to get right, I have no idea. But after that, they could enter the country. We all come from immigration, and while no one wants criminals, why can't the majority have a chance at a better life while enriching our country?

Crossing the Rio Grande or crammed into a boat for days, what difference does it make? Both show how much they want a better life.

Mine came over on a ship in 1770 with a land grant(150 acres) in rural SC from the King of England

 

Most of my family came here in the 1700s and early 1800s. There is one distant branch of my family tree that was native to Florida. I prefer to think she was Miccosukee but she may well have been Seminole, ain't that some shit? I believe she was my grandmother's grandmother. There used to be an old photo of her in her Indian garb. It burned up when the old family homestead burned down a few years ago.

Migrant vetted by Biden border agents over Zoom ‘shot immigration officer in face’

An illegal immigrant accused of shooting an off-duty border officer in the face was reportedly vetted by immigration agents over Zoom.

Miguel Francisco Mora Nunez, 21, was arrested earlier this week after allegedly shooting a US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officer in a botched robbery attempt in Fort Washington Park, New York.

It has emerged that Mr Nunez crossed into the US from Mexico in April 2023, and was allowed to stay following a virtual immigration appointment with an agent working the US-Canadian border, the New York Post reported.

The video calls were used to speed up processing times under the Biden administration, according to the Post.

There are currently 328 official ports of entry in the U.S., including land border crossings, seaports, and international airports.

I don't think it is too difficult to find one if you really want to come here legally.

 

Yeah, except that isn't what is needed any longer. If you show up at a crossing, you aren't admitted legally like people were at Ellis Island.

 

that is actually a good question- it would not surprise me if they were Tories- one of my many many great Grandfathers was the King of Scotland in the 1500’s- I do know that this many greats Grandfather was a Presbyterian Priest, who built his house and then built his Church. About 20 years ago, we visited that Church and there were 65 people with my last name in the Cemetery from the early 1780’s until the 1930’s. That little Church still stands but is no longer used, and that cemetery is full. They built a very large building next door and all the burials since the 1930’s are in the local town cemetery.

The hand blown glass hurricane lamp that came with my Grandparents on that ship sits in my home with the brass candelabra that came with in sitting in the middle.
