    Hmmm...

I wonder if somebody just threatened massive tariffs on countries that produce large quantities of sugar cane...

Perhaps, that is the reason that Coca-Cola will only put this product out as a side project (likely at a higher price point).

High fructose syrup is considered an “ultra processed” food. Not sure it makes too much health difference if you are chugging cans of coke with 50g of cane sugar vs 50g of corn syrup sugar. I think many assume the pure cane sugar is slightly “less bad”, despite there not being much evidence.

How would they even do a controlled study? You’d literally have to study two populations, make their diets at least fairly similar with the exception of having their sweeteners 100% swapped out. One group with HFCS one with sugar. Then you’d have to monitor that for 10 or 20 years to track instances of cancer, diabetes, etc. This is why we see studies that flip one way or the other on certain foods, because they are operating on surveys or on meta-data and attempting to piece bread crumbs together. An actual controlled study is a tall task. It’s just about impossible to do a long term controlled study on specific diet ingredients, and even if you commissioned one today it would take many years for a result.

    I'll beat it.

I hear that condition is painful and just gets worse with time. Let's hope he lives a long and painful life. No derangement. Cold, calculated hate of the traitor. As it should be.

I actually hope they do. That said, prices may go up if we insist on lumping huge tariffs on Brazil.

I drink Coke Zero if I am having a soft drink, but my drink of choice is sweet tea sweetened with Splenda

Monkfruit. Just got a large from CFA (unsweetened) and drinking it now. This is the closest I've found to real sugar, but it's still not the same.

From what I have researched both sucrose and high fructose corn syrup are equally bad for you, but there are still two main differences between one or the other in sodas. The sucrose sugar drinks taste better than the ones with HFCS, and the ones with real sugar (sucrose) fill you up faster leaving you much more full and less likely to drink a second soda right after the first one. I know both of those anecdotally to be true for me.

It was the clear implication from his post. It’s why Coca Cola had to come out defending their continued use of HFCS. If Trump had announced Coca Cola was going to offer a single new drink with cane sugar no one would have batted an eye. It’s been done before and you can get them in any Kroger supermarket today.
