Is anybody else getting like 3 or 4 hundred % increase in scam likely phone calls in the past few weeks? Both my phone and my wife's phone are getting blown up with scam likely calls. A lot of them are getting around the scam likely warning, we have just quit answering calls unless it is someone on our contact list. I just got tired of telling people to get off my phone.
Like they have ever done anything about them before. Whatever they were spending before was a waste because it was not working.
I haven’t but the most likely reason is an organization you’ve given your number to like a clinic, or even a store like Home Depot had a data breach, or sold your number. Another likely reason is the fact you answered an unknown caller lets the scammer know your number is active. Scammers use equipment that dials numbers at random and records who answers. Set you phone to silence unknown caller’s and if the call is important they’ll leave a message.
Instead of having a fixed monthly fee to have and use a phone, they should be charging a $0.05 - $0.10 fee per phone call, if the call is answered. Then you can answer a call and hang up, knowing that you added to the scammer's costs without giving them a payoff.
You should be a realtor. I'm getting texts for health insurance, free leads, and requests for homes they can flip. Add that to the fact apparently I "owe" paid tolls and am about to lose my license if I don't pay up. I don't answer calls my phone says is potential spam and those that just say United States under the number. Doge got our info!
There is the Do Not Call list. You'd have to answer and tell them your number is on the list and not to call back. They can get a hefty fine and you get part of the money if they call back.
I am getting a lot of random text messages. A few actually sounds like it is coming from someone I know. Even if they mention my first name, unless they identify themselves, I am not responding, so I dont get a 1000 similar text messages.
Years ago when you would just get the occasional salesman call trying to sell you something I used to ask them to hold just a second. Then I would put the phone down and come back about 5 minutes later and act like I was real interested in what they were selling. After a few minutes I would ask them to hold again. Usually after about the third time they would get tired of being on hold and hang up. One time I had a salesman on the phone about 45 minutes before I told him I was just screwing with him and told him he was about the most patient SOB I ever saw.
I hear these scams happen on message boards too. There is however a little known cure that will take care of it. Just PM me your credit card and/or banking info and I will handle this for you.
s I get some of those too, watch for the ones with the prefix code 63. That is the Philippines. I have never driven on a toll road in the Philippines.
Yes it seems to have increased. I use “silence unknown callers” on iPhone that sends them to voicemail. I try to add anybody legit to contacts as they come in. Luckily texts have not been bad for me. But my mom’s was full of spam/scams. I added an app called “Junkman” and it had been near 100% perfect at filtering out junk texts.
