I was almost sick to my stomach when I heard abc/ESPN were taking over SEC. Nothing about last year changed my mind about that.
CBS presentation absolutely blows away anything ABC/ESPN does, CBS makes the game seems like THE game of the week, ABC is just crap. The only positive of the move is Florida was on over the air TV 6 times last year, the year before CBS had them one 1 time.
I share your sentiments on each: CBS & ESPN, but that one positive paid off for us in a big way with the huge increase of our games on tv.
money talks - CBS obviously wanted out of doing the SEC as what they offered was low and then after the contract with the SEC ended, they paid a helluva lot more for the Big 10.
A huge increase of our games on TV?? Unless you mean over the air TV- this is false. I live in SC- well away from Florida- and I get every game on TV. Perhaps 1 per year is on Espn plus. Like our Samford game maybe... But otherwise every single game is on TV- whether that was in 2022 or 2024. And yes I like the Danielson crew much better than whatever ABC gives us.. Final note- I'll never forget that it was ABC who asserted that "Seminole Firewater" was invented before Gatorade during our 2008 FSU/ UF game. Here's a story on it... Ok, What's All This About FSU "Inventing" Gatorade?
My brain oozes dopamine and serotonin every time I hear the CBS college football jingle, just like a Pavlov dog.
IDK, I have fond memories of watching Jefferson Pilot of us against Kentucky or someone on a slightly snowy picture that made me stick one arm up so it would come in clearer. Beer in the other hand.
Best thing about JP was you got to see games that would not have otherwise been on tv. I don’t really care about the music on the commercials or what the talking heads have to say, so I don’t really care what channel the games are on. As long as I have a way to watch, I’m happy.
ABC/ESPN are the K-Mart of sports broadcasting. Essentially have one decent broadcasting crew and the rest are bargain basement blue light special quality announcers, comparable to the weed eater that works for 3-4 cuttings and then dies!
Is that really different from CBS? They only did one game a week, two a couple weeks a year. They only needed one decent crew because that’s all the market they owned. Seems they were the basement dwellers and they lost the one good thing they had. More similar to kmart, imo. Meanwhile walmart or espn/abc owns pretty much the entire market and keeps expanding. I think they all pretty much suck, but I don’t need someone to explain a game to me that I’m watching with my own two eyes. I mostly tune them out and/or mute them anyway.
We put all our eggs in one (network) basket and that means the network has incredible power over the SEC unlike if we had spread out our games into two or three networks like the B1G did. One thing that I have mentioned with regard to this whole TV deal is that Sankey should hold out on a possible ninth conference game. He should hold out for a massive increase in revenue to make up for the single network blunder. And that should put us back on top of the college football TV revenue world... that's where the SEC belongs. He can't undo his first mistake, but he can make up for it with a possible ninth conference game. Each SEC team should make more than the B1G makes. The SEC is still a superior college sports conference, and it's NOT even close.
Comparing Beth Mowins doing football games to the Blue Llight Special is insulting to the Blue Light Special
There is a bright spot. The quality of games we play this coming year means Beth Mowins won't be announcing them.
