Did the Ayatollah fall out of power while I was at dinner?

Looks like Russia is on its way to losing South Caucasus. It started when seven Azerbaijanis were arrested on suspicion of murder charges dating back 25 years. Two died in custody, and the other five went on trial after being badly beaten. The government of Azerbaijan did not take that well, arresting Russian IT workers, raiding the Russian news agency, etc. If Russia loses the South Caucasus, they lose the ability to control key land trade routes from China to Turkey.

Two sworn enemies unite against Putin

Good news for our resident Russophiles and Kremlin propaganda agents: Russia is facing a severe population shortage, and needs people very much. They are expected to be short by 11 MILLION workers by 2030. Putin is considering offering a stipend of potatoes and onions to westerners willing to relocate, with a raffle to see who gets the dozen eggs that will be made available once a month. Russophiles, even if clinically insane, are to be given "preferred" status for visas.

    MSN

For our resident Russophiles, I suggest we take up a collection for one-way tickets to Moscow. They'll want to get a head start on the stampede, and select the best potatoes available.

Another of the positive benefits of this change in tone from the President is that it will cause a split between the MAGA true believers and those who simply support Russia. Consequently, we will find out who the actual Russophiles are when MAGA falls into line and becomes all about smacking Russia down.

maybe so, maybe not. Not sure you can say you would hold European feet to fire when for decades nobody did, then when someone finally does, he’s demonized as alienating our allies by asking them to actually pay. Oh the horror. Even calling out the Germans for buying energy from Russia and not from us, all while asking us to protect them from…….Russia?!?!? Keep in mind Trump did that long before the war broke out and hating Russians was in vogue for the left. Our European allies have been kindly ‘asked’ to pay for decades and their answer has been for us to kick rocks. So here we are 4 years into this war and the Russians have taken land the size of the Atlantic Ocean to western Daytona beach and it’s basically turned into an over the horizon stand off drone war, which tells me the Russians are not an occupational threat to anything past bout 200 miles. As always, everything above is JMHO.

Dearest leader is rightfully demonized for a multitude of things, but I have to say I've not seen him demonized for telling NATO to increase their defense contributions... have a link? I've seen many criticize his treatment of allies wrt tariffs (ever changing lol). You seem to be okay with the Baltic states, and Moldova being invaded and made subservient to Russia by granting 200 miles of occupation. This would please Putin greatly.

Trump NATO summit starts with insults to US allies | CNN Politics

Don’t have time to dig too much. Here’s an article from 2018. Title gives a hint. Telling nato anything other than the free ride will continue is of course labeled an ‘insult’. What’s fantastic about this 2018 article is we now have the benefit of knowing what followed and orange man was a lot more accurate than all the self proclaimed smart people .

As far as Baltic states and Moldova and what would please Putin…?? Sounds like you are back competing at the conflation Olympics. I don’t make decisions by the metric of is Putin happy or sad. My answer is a question. ‘Is Moldova vital to American interests? If so, why. If these countries want to purchase our weapons to defend themselves then great, but I’m not for sending free weapons into perpetuity.

good. It should be 80/20 and not 50/50. 4 years later we have learned their capabilities and lack of capabilities. The red army has learned that waves of soldiers on the offensive is far more costly than defending using waves of soldiers. They are wholly incapable of capturing and holding any territory of significance and now their successes are limited to waves of cheap drones. A strategy that wouldn’t work going any further west. JMHO

I know people used to mock the way he’d frame it as NATO owes the U.S. money, as if it was an outstanding invoice. That was about as silly as framing tariff taxes as something other countries pay.

In either case, I think Vladimir Putin deserves the most amount of “credit” for Europe increasing their military spend.

I wonder if anything has changed in geopolitics in Europe since 2018? Really? You think that's even a pertinent valid response? By your metric is Ukraine vital to American interests? How about Israel? Show us the link to the requests for free weaponry at this point. How much did orange man (as you called him) charge for the bunker busters and the jet fuel for all the B2s? Is it possible these are not necessarily transactional?

It’s not a Trump or MAGA thing. It’s a U.S. thing. The U.S. simply does not have the resources to prevent Russia from achieving its military aims. I suppose that makes me a Russophile. It’s similar to when I found out that there was nothing Western Carolinians could do to stem the flood, on that day I became a Helenophile.

I completely agree with you about Putin getting credit , but the entire point is missed. You are complicit in inviting a war to start if you wait till war breaks out to actually prepare for war. Thats entire concept of the current admins stated policy of peace through strength.
