Really sad what this thread became. While I am sure there will be lessons learned on all sides, sometimes Mother Nature just wins, and trying to find someone or something to blame is pointless, there’s still over 100 people dead including dozens of innocent kids. Which people seemed to realize about 12 pages ago.

Obviously not fair to say she killed kids. But apparently the law now requires every expenditure of $100,000 or more to require her signature. They didn't have a clue that speed of response can be really important?
I am hoping that some kids get “miraculously” saved. I am not optimistic. Death toll is probably going to be over 300

agree. there's still more than 100 missing. hard to believe they're still alive out there somewhere. I'll still read a story or two about the background, the cause, possible prevention in the future ... but I can't read about the victims anymore. Just too heartwrenching.
Friend of mine is on a response team sent from a local county here in Florida. He said its surreal and hard to process when you're looking at a waterline at the treetops. Pretty sure most of what they're doing is recovery not rescue at this point.
Yet here in NC during Helene people complained that the process was to bloated and needed streamlined because it made it hard for aid to get in. It's called politics and everyone tries to capitalize on a tragedy. Even they didnt cause a flood.

Good for her. It's easy to get consumed in hate in today's world. People get sucked right in. Glad she was able to see the light and has apologized for it. Kristi Noem has real chutzpah. She complained that FEMA has become too bureaucratic while imposing the requirement that every expenditure by FEMA over $100,000 receive her personal approval which resulted in a delay of 72 hours before swiftwater rescue teams could be deployed to area of the floods. ^ Great post. Its at least the proper start to apologize for something one says that is either inaccurate, hateful, or that they shouldn't. Such a contrast to what we see from the other side. Now we just need Donald Trump to apologize for his lies about FEMA, and that immigrants were eating dogs. Same standards for everyone, amirite?
