They're playing the same game everyone else is playing. They have recruiters paid to recruit and they're handing out NIL deals. As much as I see them as our prime rival, they're in the exact same boat. Also 99/100 players aren't picking schools because of academics. For most 4* or 5* players who have NFL aspirations, getting any degree is as far as they about academics, if they care about it at all.

Especially the number of players that get processed through high school football factories. Players who are told they are top 1% of 1% and are on a clear path to make the NFL and never realize how few players make the NFL and make enough money for it to make a long term difference.

If they are a four star and they dont have the aptitude of an engineer, thats clearly their best shot at wealth. They definitely should be taking their shot and have 100% focus on football.

They better have a back-up plan or they end up right back where they came from. Think Vernon Maxwell...he once had wealth.

Could be more NIL money than other schools might give them, family influence,or a better chance at starting.

    Only shot at...?

If you are implying the only way to meet a tough standard is to give it your entire effort or else you are going to be passed by those who are more motivated, then that is fine. It is just that sports are NOT HS or college type sports, in that there is a line where your ability to participate ends, also known as "age" or "years of service". And as a result, the "veterans" have to be "retired" (also known as being better or cheaper than they) instead of waiting for the clock to strike midnight on them so that you can take their place.

And so, what you are saying is that you may be a paid employee doing this sports thingy and I say that is a siren's song for WAY too many folks. If there was a silver lining with the concept of a student-athlete, it was putting some damn limited folks in environments that they would probably not find themselves in if they were not skilled or sized in some enviable fashion. And then "stupid" gets a chance to be minimized. And yes, that includes putting up with adversity and overcoming. I would use the analogy of the Richard Gere character in "An Officer and a Gentleman" as a great example. But nowadays, there IS no adversity, just a bunch of silly and entitled folks who will burn through their resources with aplomb. And yes, stupid does what stupid does. That is all there is???

In their heart of hearts, they want to really focus on getting a useless degree and get as far away from big time football as possible.

I just hope that Title IX is not applied to revenue sharing. If that happens, a lot of Olympic sports are going to get cut. That was a pathway for a lot of folks that could not afford college to get a full ride.

Thats why i dont like title lx to begin with. well , one reason . If anyone is good enough at something that the school or boosters are willing to foot the bill, i wish it was allowed. lx is like socialism to me. Dont get the best person for the job, get one that looks like this is another good reason.

I hope it is because that is the only way I can see this ridiculous professionalizing of college sports hitting any kind of stumbling block. College sports should be amateur. period. full.stop. (IMO you know,)

Even the Olympics are basically professionals nowadays. If you're paying $300 to sit on the 50, those are professionals.

Once we have crossed the threshold to paying players, Title 9 shouldn't apply. It doesn't apply to businesses with employees like NFL or Walmart. At this point, they aren't amateurs anymore.
If those other sports are still funded by the athletic department without touching the 20.5 million for the House settlement, if they survive then great, if not, that's the model the revenue generating sports wanted and that's that.

Yep, so far they get to play sports and get an education . Its kinda weird that some play a sport that's a financial drain and they are awarded a scholly for participating.
