If you are tired of stripping down and ashamed of holes in your socks, here is some uplifting news! After 19 years of some nasty toes, some slippery sweat spots, and smelly diabetes feet, you can wear your shoes again! TSA has a paltry $11.8b budget… if only we can curtail the TSA jobs program and save some money in the Fed budget. https://www.npr.org/2025/07/08/nx-s1-5460978/tsa-shoes-stay-on-airport-security-screening
I’ll be honest. This doesn’t give me the warm and fuzzies. I have no problem with heightened security for air travel, particularly in this political climate.
I dont think the shoe thing means anything. I've had TSA precheck for years and havent taken off my shoes since. Its not a security loophole, I'm still walking through a screening device. And Richard Reid wasn't even successful in the first place.
You have been vetted by TSA,which is why you have the TSA pre-check. I think that’s a false equivalency.
Why would that matter if there was some shoe-bomb loophole for me to suicide bomb a plane? Richard Reid could have got TSA precheck, because I dont think he had any kind of record.
Can’t speculate on whether he would get TSA, but at the same time, it doesn’t sound like a guy who doesn’t want to be noticed would apply to out his fingerprints and other information into the public databases. But I agree, there’s no fail-safe. I just don’t think this is the time for us to take our eyes off the ball, so to speak, on safety precautions.
Pre doesn't always save much time. I like it for the convenience.but if they keep minimizing the search measures in the reg line, I'll consider not renewing my pre.
I had to remove my Teevas (flip flops) in Tampa and Vancouver. Damn flip flops. To top it off I was chosen (at random) to be patted down and had to answer numerous questions in Tampa and Vancouver. In Vancouver I was patted down twice, put through the scanner, questioned. Two different persons stamped my ticket with a red mark. About an hour before boarding I was called up to the desk at the walkway to verify I had both stamps on my ticket. When I asked why the lady said that I needed both stamps to board and if not security would be called to pat me down holding up my boarding. When I got called to board and they scanned my ticket an alarm went off. Then they checked my two stamps again and let me on. The whole time my wife was laughing her ass off and calling me a gangster. lol I’m 72, retired and over weight, ex LEO, never been arrested, numerous health issues, nice jovial guy, smile a lot, say sir and mam. Try to be kind to everyone, yada, yada, yada. Thanks Trump (jk)
Sometimes it takes longer. Lots of people have pre check now. I get pissed when the clear people get to cut in front of pre check
Perhaps TSA found you attractive. It’s OK Homer you can work it even at your age. But for the love of God, please don’t twerk it.
Pre check is like the fast pass at Disney. Once everyone got it, the regular line started looking pretty good. Seriously, I always fly in flip flops for this reason. Kick on. Kick off and keep moving.
