Why did the Republicans vote against the child tax credit extension in 2022 since they care about kids and the class?

Letting people keep the money they earned is not socialism. People should never get money in a tax return that they didn't pay in to start with in my opinion.

Sounds like you're ready to eliminate all business tax credits

I saw B2 Bombers fly over on the 4th. And you got to feel a massive surge of MAGA-Murica pride when Cadet Bone Spurs had his military parade.

So why are you so reluctant to pay your bills? That beautiful parade wasn't any more free than all the other stuff you've enjoyed from all that deficit spending during your lifetime.

So why you run away when it's time to pay the bill? Getting something for nothing is call .... welfare .... right?

From what I read, if the BBB had not passed the child tax credit would have gone down $1,000 per child but now it goes up an additional $200 per child.

I think people that don't want to pay their bills just want to be on welfare, right?

I think he accidentally wrote it correctly as I would assume most democrats do in fact care about the child tax credit, just not at the expense of a host of other issues.

Some Dems in congress think that they could gain 40+ House seats in 2026 because of this BBB. Do you agree with that?

Seems extraordinarily unlikely. The gain is possible as we see those kinds of swings all the time but I doubt it would be from this one bill.

The BBB is an open declaration of war against poor people. Not against poverty, but against poor people. It strips vital government assistance, aide and resources to those who need assistance, all while somehow increasing the deficit by trillions. And make no mistake, it has all the hallmarks of MAGA doctrine—it has a silly title and it has paper-thin benefits (like a $1g/new child handout) that make it appear like it’s helping the working class. But once you dive in, it is a rich-get-richer and the poor get screwed piece of legislation that should make legislators ashamed to call themselves public servants.

I don’t think people will realize the full impact of the bill in time for the next elections.

    ^This.

And in true Trump fashion, it's designed to boost the economy in the short run (next couple of years), before tapering off or even causing negative impact to GDP. (depending on the forecaster)

Typical Trumpy con : get his own $, claim some results, kick the cost down the road.

Sad that anyone could actually still fall for this. But Americans are pretty economically illiterate.

Rich people getting richer is not a bad thing. Somebody has to pay the poorer people. Income inequality isn’t a bad thing. The poorer end of the socioeconomic spectrum standard of living could easily rise at the same time income inequality is expanding. And in fact, one could easily demonstrate that income equalization efforts throughout history have always led to the detriment of living conditions for the poor. This idea that the rich getting richer is somehow a bad thing is the red herring of all red herrings in economics.

The bill had more than 1,000 pages. I have no idea how many dozens or hundreds of items were in it. The idea that if you oppose the bill, it means that you oppose every single thing in it is a pretty silly claim.
But we've seen this kind of thing before, claims that if you voted against the omnibus spending bill, it meant you don't think the military should be funded ...
