He's doing it because the flaming narcissist loves to see his name on everything. Also, the money.

Gibberish. Please find me a Democrat who says anything close to this, which was literally yesterday.

I wouldn’t call this grift. People who buy this stuff are getting exactly what they want. A better example of grift would be people who contributed to Joe Biden’s campaign fund. Those people got grifted.

So let them do it. Conservatives could take the high road with literally every other conservative candidate which would make the Biden debacle look even worse, but instead chose the barking snake oil salesman that somehow makes Biden look less terrible. That is quite the feat.

Sure, if you don’t know what grifting even means. One essential element of being a “grifter” is pocketing the proceeds. Maybe I missed it, but did Joe Biden cash out from the campaign fund?

I’d say Hunter Biden was a grifter. Trump hocking dubious merch is basically on the level of Hunter Biden selling his paintings, except 1000x worse in scope and scale. I’m sure your argument was totally: “Hunter’s not grifting, he’s just selling people something they want?”. :emoji_joy: Yup. No hypocrisy at all.

‘Member when Republicans used to mock that, or even want it investigated?

Of course a key difference is Hunter was a private citizen. So while obviously to “monetize” in that way exhibited shady ethics, not sure what the case would be to call it illegal. On the other hand there actually are specific laws that address govt officials monetizing their positions. So on top of being even more directly unethical, it’s also explicitly illegal.

Mike Pence 2024 Merch - Official Merch

Mike Pence has a merch store. Do you consider Pence to be a snake oil salesman too?

That appears to be campaign related merch. Did Pence pocket any of the $713.97 windfall that his 2024 Presidential campaign raised?

It doesn't fit his narrative and it's just easier to spice up his responses with the word "libbie", like it holds any weight.

FWIW, I did not make many comments about Hunter. The only real opinion I had on Hunter Biden was there was a coordinated effort to suppress the story and information about the story in the media and in government agencies in order to distort the results of an election. I knew there was suspected illegal activity, but the actual statutes of the law that were broken and what they said…I did not understand it on a granular level like that.

I am also not very familiar with the ins and outs of campaign and political finance law. Obviously business dealings with foreign entities are very concerning because of the ability to purchase influence.

Many politicians also have merch stores like Pence and AOC, and cologne seems like it could fall in line with the kind of merch products that go hand in hand with political promotion. However, if Trump is breaking the law that is concerning. I have learned, though, that there are usually two sides to these things, and it is a good habit to wait before jumping to conclusions. Political bias often fuels overzealousness to immediately reach a conclusion, and then that can quickly translate into bearing false witness. So, I am not 100% defending Trump here, but I am not jumping to conclusions either.

I've been on these boards long enough to know most posters history. There's like four actual liberal posters here and the rest are just former Republicans who want nothing to do with maga

Trump University, Trump watches, trump steak, trump's "non profit" trumps vodka, trump buildings (psst, he don't own it!)

They just can't wrap their head around the fact that there could be people with some conservative ideals that can't stomach dt and can see right through what's happening.

Exactly. And it’s worth noting if Trump weren’t POTUS he can sell all the steaks and cologne he wants. He can write books. Sign movie deals. Whatever.

Frankly, those are small potatoes things. If he was selling them as campaign items to raise campaign money it’s 100% legit. All campaigns sell merch. The question is where that money goes beyond the campaign. If a politician pockets the $$$ while selling from the White House then it’s one of those “beneath the dignity of the office things”, and also probably illegal - the problem is if you have a Prez that not only doesn’t respect the law but openly mocks it.

When you look at the Univesity, that’s where it was more staight up grifting because the product being sold was a sham. A fraud. I believe the crypto activities are in this grifting space, and frankly this makes all other grifts look small potatoes by comparison such that “cologne” is hardly worth talking about other than whatever fun internet trolls want to have with it.

He didnt peddle it while in office. That site is for funing his campaign which is SOP. Literally peddling it from your phone in the oval office is totally wrong and I would say that about anyone.

From crypto to overpriced cologne Trump is just running a business from the OO.

You and I would probably be fired if we spent our time doing that at work.

The Pence merch store was obviously intended to raise money for Pence's now defunct 2024 presidential campaign. It is in no way similar to Trump's schemes to enrich himself personally. Although it's not completely clear it appears that the "store" is being operated by the firm originally retained by the Pence campaign with the purpose of disposing of the leftover merch. The chances are the proceeds from the sales of the merch go to "Viralstyle.com" that firm rather than to Mike Pence himself. Even if Pence receives royalties from the sale of the merch their total value is almost certainly less than one tenth of one percent of what Trump receives a single day from his various schemes.

It's interesting that so many people are going to see this entirely accurate post ...... but just not care.

It's fun to see how many people are willing to totally abandon their ethics because they love and support ..... Donald J. Trump.

Do you ever think about how Trump has brought a lot of us old time posters closer together? I just want to argue with you and Tilly again, yet I'm smashing agree again and again.

I think the issue is, they see him as the closest option to defend their ethics. (Conservative values, anti liberal agenda etc ) I once did, so I get it.

What frustrates me is that so many are so slow to wake up to it.
