I hate what their program has represented, and how few outside of our 'happy few, band of brothers' sees it for what it is. ;-/ I hate that many young men have been misshaped by the athletic culture at FSU that seems to prize things that are so base and meaningless in the big picture.

I am such a pie-eyed romantic, but I sincerely believe that such things take place when those youngsters are playing sports for a school, including ours. If they don't they should. "Upon the fields of friendly strife are sown the seeds that, upon other fields, on other days, will bear the fruits of victory.” This is a dictum I was raised to believe, and while it was said by General Douglas MacArthur about the athletics at the military academies, specifically West Point (Beat Navy!), I believe it to be true of all athletics, and the "victory" is not merely about future leaders in war, but in the battle to make good people, good citizens, good fathers.

Speaking for me- no hate involved. I don't hate Eric Crouch but I can still say he had no business winning that Heisman over Rex.
And I don't hate Broome, but unlike in 01, we actually got to see our guy vs. the award winner in an actual game that meant something.
And in crunch time, with all the marbles at stake, one player shone like the incredible leader and player he was, and the award winner... well he didn't.

One final note about Clayton- and the man he is.
In the post-game after this same Auburn win, there is a ceremony where 1 player gets to "move" this team up in the bracket.
By all rights Clayton should have been the one, as a senior and as our leader. Yet Clayton stepped back and let Chinyelu actually do the honors.
That's the kind of leader Clayton is, and the kind of team we had...

Some of you take “hate” in this context too literally. It’s a colloquialism for “criticism.” I don’t think any of you actually hate the dude.

I've read you enough to know that is the case.

It's a word thrown far too casually in our modern discourse, for my taste.

Seminoles and Hurricanes and all programs so girly
Will Wade and Bruce Pearl and anyone named Hurley
Lunardi and Dickie V and girls wearing nose rings
These are a few of my most-hated things.

I know, I just needed a slightly annoying sports personage to rhyme with Lunardi.
