It was not 0/0 because Trump cancelled the deal that made it 0/0. Vietnam generally put a tariff of below 10% on US products after the cancellation of that agreement.

Yup this is a lower stakes version of Trump pulling out of the Iran nuclear deal and then trying to get it back when backed into a corner

China manufactures all of Lululemon's (Canadian) products. They knock off those same products of their client, move them through Vietnam and/Philippines, and sell the knockoff goods to Costco. Just one example. Panda is sad today.

Damn, imagine how sad they would have been if he would have finalized TPP without China in 2017

So are people who wanted affordable clothes, shoes, TVs, etc, from Costco ... who cares about similar looking yogo pants.

If you paid full price for expensive yoga pants, you dont want some low income riff raff rocking knockoffs with the same branding. Big win for conspicuous consumption!

I don't even think it's the same branding. I found a CNN article on the subject and it says they are labeled as Kirkland Brand, they just look similar to LuLuLemon... seems like a weird claim since all kinds of pants look pretty similar to me.

Kirkland brand yoga pants lol, now I've heard it all. The most innovation I've seen in yoga pants is putting in phone or gun pockets.

The products will not be manufactured in the US. They will still be imported with only the final cost to American consumers increasing significantly and even if some of the manufacturing was moved to the US American consumer would still be paying significantly higher prices. It happened when Trump imposed tariffs on washing machines during his first term. While some manufacturing actually did move to the US the prices on all of those appliances increased regardless of where they were manufactured.

There is an argument that can be made that all taxes are paid by the end user. It’s a rather good argument actually.

So you are trying to suggest this tariff PROTECTS Lululemon from knockoffs… and yet.

Maybe you should look at how American trade was done pre- 1913.

How many countries have yet to make trade deal s with the U.S.?

Maybe we make one big beautiful thread to contain all of these trade deals, instead of making a brand-new thread for every single country that makes a trade deal with the U.S.

Pre-1913??? Why stop there? Let's go all the way back to a barter system.

Trump’s trade policy seems hell-bent on reducing trade deficits by taxing foreign goods, regardless of the reasoning.

He then touts the revenue as if the foreign country is the one who paid it, but it’s really just a measure of inflation, as it gets past onto the US consumer.

What nascent industries are we protecting now? If we were still relying on tariff income we wouldnt have the empire, central banking, guns and bombs to compel these trade "deals" to begin with. You should check out the size of the US military in 1913 too while you are at it lol.

I'd love for you to explain how trade policies from over a hundred years ago are still relevant in today's world and global economy. Since you understand the significance and all...

The WH admin, back in April claimed "90 deals in 90 days". Multiple TACOS later.... seems we have one big beautiful lie once again from the clowns.
