Gainesville ranked #1 most dangerous college town in the US

I use to read the newspaper, every Surfer and Surfing magazine along with Sports Illustrated. They all sold tons of copies and were flush with money. Now, we just read each other's nonsense and writers are struggling to be a real job. There aren't as many making a legit living. Maybe a podcast is the new journalism and its a step forward in many ways but there isnt the local newspaper money behind these writers anymore. Making it to ESPN by being loud and obnoxious is the new way. Who pays for true writers anymore.

 

Seems like there's more "writers" now than ever before, they just don't write anything good or do any work to actually verify what they write. All that matters is getting clicks and/or being first. Podcasts could be better because what people say can be challenged in real time, but then you don't get invited back, so the majority of them are no better than forum fodder either. Probably worse, really. The absolute worst part of all of it is how people circulate stuff that is just pure garbage, then repeat it ad-nauseum like it's fact because some guy in a basement somewhere said so.

 

Sensationalism is the new way to keep the lights on. Its at every corner and folks seek out what they want to be the truth.

 

Funny that there was already a reply that it came from Utah, yet it's Cali BS still. To top it off, in a thread full of calling out misrepresentation of information. Pot meet kettle and all that.

 

How far south? The near south side has been "gentrified" quite a bit and is actually one of the fastest growing parts of the city. A lot of skyline being added in that direction in the past decade or so.
