(I had to change the link to some random verified X account after someone changed the title of this thread in a way that made no sense….).

American consumers get to pay 20% more for their purchases from Vietnam.

Those hippy liberals at CNBC understand how it works….

“Trump wrote that “Vietnam will pay” that 20% duty, but tariffs are taxes on foreign goods that are paid by the importers of those products.”

so much financial and economic ignorance in your post….to believe what you typed you’d have to first first conclude the that every Vietnamese company has been undercharging every product by 20% and leaving that money on the table and the consumer will simple absorb a 20% price hike without changing their buying habits. All very unlikely. But hey. You be you. Keep the hate going…..

Your post makes ZERO sense. I don’t “have to conclude” any of the unintelligible nonsense you posted to understand that the 20% tax Trump is imposing will be absorbed by Americans who buy products made in Vietnam…. Like shoes and TVs…

Let me post this part again, with hopes you can understand….

“Trump wrote that “Vietnam will pay” that 20% duty, but tariffs are taxes on foreign goods that are paid by the importers of those products.”

Sounds like a sweet deal. People can pay extra to pay for the taxes, reduce their spending, or buy products that they would not prefer without this tax. All three sound like wins for consumers.

The government revenue will come from import companies that are purchasing products made in Vietnam. Those costs will be passed along to the consumer in the form of higher prices. As for the trade balance, the average Vietnam salary is about $300/month USD. I doubt there will be more Vietnamese buying American made products, even with no tariffs on them. And with the average American salary now over $5k a month on average, one would expect a massive trade imbalance between the USA and Vietnam. If there wasn't, we should be very worried.

The real question, does Donald really think the foreign countries pay the tariffs or does he know he is lying about it to the American people.

    Either way ..............

Pfft… this is so clueless. Vietnam already had tarriffs on US goods that were somewhere between low and non existent…. You obviously believed every word printed on Trump’s “penguin tarriff” chart, didn’t you?

It would be helpful to know what the tariff situation was with Vietnam in early January of this year prior to President Trump becoming president.

Was it 0/0? Who paid what and how much prior to Trump? Throwing out “oh my god, we’re now doing XYZ” is meaningless without context.
