All the money belongs to the UAA/Athletic Dept. All the teams are part of the UAA/Athletic Dept. Having good/competitive teams across the board is good for the UAA/Athletic Dept. If you want football to keep every penny it earns, it likely needs to break away from the UAA/Athletic Dept. I do not think that will have the desired effect.
Many schools have athletic departments without football. Im glad we have that but it should be decisions made by the school instead of title lx. Mens soccer which i dont give two shits about is pretty big these days among kids but we dont have it. Men play more sports but it has to be equal for some reason.
The opportunities have to be proportional, not equal. You don’t have to spend the same amount of money. The UAA chooses to fund the non-revenue sports at the level they do (they’re not funded equally, fyi). You’re welcome to petition UF to spend less on these sports. Hell, if you want the fed funding cut off, you’re welcome to petition UF to ignore title ix all together. I have a feeling you’ll be laughed out of any rooms you find a way into. There’s tons of legislation I don’t agree with, but that doesn’t make it any less a part of my life.
That's exactly it. It's BS and there's nothing we can do about it. 85 football players means there's no soccer players for men.
Soccer would just be another non revenue sport sucking on the football teat. Now that’s what you want? I thought you wanted to get rid of those, not make more.
I want rid of title lx and tge schools do do what they want. Like i said, i dont give two shits about soccer but the fact that their hands are tied is my complaint. They should be able to run the athletic department as they see fit and boosters should be able to support whatever sports they choose.
If UF wanted a mens soccer team, they’d have one. If you’re wanting to abolish title ix, I’ll tell you what my pops always told me: Wish in one hand, shit in the other. See which one fills up faster.
Im sure its not going anywhere and soccer is a financial drain. I realize what i want or how it should be is itrelevant.
While Title IX is the general reason given for the closing of UF's wrestling team in 1979 (and the eventual loss of every other SEC D1 program), the instate wrestling community has always believed Charley Pell to be the chief reason behind it and Title IX as his excuse. Some speculation is about a problem he had with the Clemson team and that he made the end of wrestling at UF a condition of his hire. Other stories are rooted in jealousy of a relatively new, non revenue sport being the most successful sport on campus and already winning a then very rare SEC title. And there's always the simple explanation that less money spent on wrestling meant more money that could be spent on football. But yes, history could be repeating itself in order to keep feeding the football beast.
Maybe we could get a double dutch team of a hundred or so girls. Then we could have whatever sports we want. But what Pain said is probably more the truth, the school would have the jump rope team if they really wanted wrestling, soccer, lacrosse or whatever.
What is your definition of of “real fans” Most that come to Gator games in my opinion are real fans . Why not build a stadium that is comfortable and efficient
