Does the 11.8 million include those that are able to work but chose not to so they can get free healthcare? Just want to make sure I understand what went into that number before voting

 

In FY24, the government spent under $600B in Medicaid. Don’t know what’s in the proposed budget.

 

Just found it…the BBB calls for a reduction of $793B over 10 years. Don’t know what the yearly breakout is.

 

In Singapore everybody has excellent healthcare coverage as far as I can tell. Really poor people pay nothing. Cost is roughly 30% of what Americans pay as a percent of GDP. In 2021 18.3% of GDP was spent on healthcare in the US, 5.57% in Singapore (per Grok).

Why don't we make our healthcare system more like Singapore's? Have Democrats ever voted for anyone who would be open to transitioning towards such a system, ever?

The majority of "savings" on work requirements don't come from people who are poor and choose not to work. It is the administrative burden of filling out all the paperwork necessary to continuously prove your work status. In fact, previous work requirements actually were associated with declines in employment amongst those with the requirement (some of which, at least, is likely due to declines in health).
