I just saw it on the news. They don't have a motive yet that I have heard but it appears that the firefighters were intentionally targeted.

Yeah I saw it a couple hours ago and have been waiting for more details. Sounds crazy whoever it is. Thought I would check here and was surprised there was no thread on it.

Apparently they found the shooter dead with a gun, suicide probably. Two firefighters were killed and another one in the hospital.

The like was for the shooter dead. The firefighters were killed early in the afternoon. The initial reports thought the fire was set intentionally. What kind of a person does something like this.

No idea, but something similar (on a smaller scale) happened in Tallahassee a decade ago.

A man with a history of threatening law enforcement set his house on fire to get first responders to come, then killed a sheriffs deputy and wounded another and shot at other police and firefighters when they responded to the fire, before he was killed by an off-duty cop who lived nearby and ran outside with his rifle after hearing the shots:

Tallahassee man lit house on fire, waited to ambush officers

Me too, but the targets (firefighters) didn't make any sense. I think it might be personal at the particular firefighters.

Nah, sovereign nation types are a menace to society. When you’ve seen first hand how they treat DMV clerks and elected officials I wouldn’t put anything past them. I had to advise our state’s AG on whether we should prosecute one that had done everything short of being physically violent at that point. Guy was a complete lunatic.

It's fine to not answer questions, but the guys with the fake license plates and no driver's licenses trying to argue intricacies of the Constitution with cops on the side of the road, or judges in a court room, are entertaining for sure.

Do you think half of it is those people think or know that the cops do not want to spend a half a day doing paperwork for arresting them for not showing ID and Insurance, so they just let them go?

I understand that policemen ask certain "questions", especially during traffic stops, that are designed to put the citizen in a bit of a bind during the on site investigation, and for potential court hearings, however there are ways to respond that can deflect those intentions and allow the citizen to maintain ones constitutional rights of privacy and protection.

Most police are not racist out of control thugs and are simply doing their job. Providing them a level of courtesy and respect more often than not will diffuse most situations. There are various You Tube videos out there hosted by lawyers that help the public to understand proper responses that are neither hostile or dis-respectful of law enforcement, yet better protect the average citizen.

Coming across as a smart ass sovereign citizen is, IMO, the height of stupidity and is more likely than not setting a tone that will not end well.
If one plays that card they better know precisely what they are doing or they may find themselves in the back of a cruiser, handcuffed.

Also, for those not aware, the Trump Administration, in conjunction with Immigration and Naturalization, ICE, and numerous other levels of Federal, State and Local Law Enforcement is really cracking down on transportation networks all around the country, including RURAL areas, to interdict Immigrants, Cartel Members, Drug Dealers, Gangs, Thieves and Bad Guys. Recreational drug use, including alcohol consumption, is not a particularly
good decision for drivers, even for your average Joe these days. I strongly suspect Law Enforcement has a wink and a nod from Judicial Districts that strict enforcement of "Miranda" rights is less important now as compared to the current administrations ideas of "Law Enforcement" on the highways and byways of America.

The sovereign citizen with the fake plate and no drivers license defacto “doesn’t know what they are doing”. I think that’s the point. They cannot be reasoned with, they already think the cop is wrong to even pull them over and ask for the DL. Most of those people are deep down a cult rabid hole, and the dangerous thing to law enforcement is their propensity to turn violent (like the whole concept attracts violent lunatics like flies to shit). I’ve humored myself watching/reading some of their insane arguments and to me it comes off like they are schizophrenic or something.

That being said, no mention of that in this case (yet). The article actually mentioned he wanted to BE a firefighter, so maybe that was the motive (some type of rejection)?

Yeah, you can get more out of an ACLU "know your rights" seminar than whatever nonsense sovereign citizens are counting on like citing maritime law or the Posse Comitatus Act or something lol.
