"It's really important not just for the Fed, but for Congress and for businesses, frankly, to know what really is going on in the economy," Powell continued. "I don't like to see the kind of stories I'm reading and the idea being that the data is going to become more volatile and less reliable. That'll make it more difficult for the private sector and for you and for us."

That means inflation, employment, and other economic measures that the Fed and other institutions depend on to determine policy might be less accurate than they were in the past.

DOGE cuts on government funding could be a culprit. BLS wasn't spared from budget cuts earlier this year, and a proposal in Trump's Big Beautiful Bill is looking to further reduce the agency's budget by $56 million.

Fed chief Powell is starting to worry about the reliability of economic data

Thanks to DOGE we now have less data inputs and more guesses based on historical data. So in reality we have no idea what is going on

we’re only 5 months into Trump admin so too soon to tell, but agree, economic data does impact 401ks.

These reports are more than just fun factoids. They influence industries and markets. if this admin starts taking a sharpie to economic data will make our economy less efficient and weaken our country.

Both sides have been picking at the others data since Obama.

Powell has not appeared to be partisan.

He did wait to long to cut rates in 2018 and waited to long to raise in 2021 IMHO.

He engineered a very difficult soft landing that certain buffoons have been trying to derail.

I like that we outperformed every other first world country when it came to Covid inflation and you got a disagree on this. Some people hate stats

I’ll agree with the first part for sure.

I don’t think anyone is trying to ruin the landing on purpose and so far it hasn’t happened.

Well, they ARE trying, but they (or more correctly, most) are trying to ruin the soft landing out of ignorance...it's as simple as that!

Cut funding for the BLS' ability to survey businesses then fire people because you feel that the survey numbers are wrong. Is that how it works?

Yup, that's how it works. (When half the voters are a cult to a criminal, and an entire political party has been reduced to being criminal enablers.)

Sad how they'll let their criminal destroy any aspect of our country that he chooses to. Guess that's just the reality.

Outperforming other first world countries is like( to borrow a line from Lisa Lampanelli) being the prettiest Woman on The View.

I don’t give a shit about rankings of who did what number. The whole thing was stupidity, and the inflation was almost completely avoidable.

Inflation was completely avoidable? You really believe that?

How do you have supply shortages, but have no inflation?

Most of the supply shortages were tied to the stupid decisions to shut down. Don’t make stupid decisions, less supply shortages, less inflation.

Did you ever ask yourself why toilet paper was for all intents and purposes and purposes rationed. It wasn’t because of supply shortages, it was driven by the irrational panic instilled in people by The Little Idiot (Fauci) and his ilk. We all should be ashamed of ourselves for going along with that bullshit.

We can only control our country, if China/Vietnam/Mexico/Canada or whoever else shuts down, that still impacts our supply chains. Do we even make toilet paper here? And people horde stuff for hurricanes causing supply shortage and price hikes, even if Fauci doesnt say anything, people are going to horde supplies they dont want to have to re-up every week. Idiots in this country horde guns and ammo just because a Democrat wins an election. Mythical American self-reliance ends at the supermarket and sporting goods store.

Stupid decisions saved millions of lives. The repugs were all in on shutdowns, until the maga mentals cried about it. It would be an interesting phenomenon if it were't so detrimental to our democracy.
