Diversity, equity and inclusion. Honestly how can you oppose any of it if you are a thinking human being.

The CATO Institute also seems enthusiastic about the prospect of breaking up the accreditation monopolies given the tremendous power these institutions hold over the dispersion of federal funds. The CATO Institute seems to be a big fan Trump’s recent executive orders surrounding education, which paved the way for DeSantis and the southeastern states to announce this new accreditation body:

Hold Accreditors Accountable When They Abuse Their Power

One of the problems with accreditation is that it allows accreditors to abuse their power by using the threat of cutting off taxpayer funding to force colleges to dance to the accreditor’s tune. For example, in the early 2000s, George Mason University’s Antonin Scalia Law School resisted racial preferences until the law school accreditor “threatened the institution with revocation of its accreditation on account of its alleged diversity problem.” This order could reduce this type of abuse of power by putting accreditors on notice that similar behavior could lead to termination of their recognition (only “recognized” accreditors have gatekeeping power over taxpayer funds).

Open the Door for New Accreditors

The Biden administration inexplicably ceased accepting new applications from potential new accreditors. This exacerbated the already shockingly low rate of entry of accreditors—there hasn’t been a single new one approved in 73 years that wasn’t severely restricted in which colleges it could accredit. The order ends this freeze, and it would be great news if it resulted in new accreditors being recognized.

Change the Way Accreditors Make Their Decisions

Institutional accreditors accredit entire universities, whereas programmatic accreditors accredit only within a specific academic field. Institutional accreditors paint with too broad a brush. A university could have a great physics department and a terrible chemistry department, so institutional accreditation either unjustly punishes the physics department or lets the chemistry department escape accountability. The order directs the Department of Education to encourage institutional accreditors to use program-level data, which is a long overdo step.

    Experiment with New Accountability Systems

Perhaps the most exciting component of the order is the directive to experiment with a new voluntary accountability system. Done right, this could be used to prototype or even establish a better accountability system. For example, why not base a program’s eligibility for student loans on repayment rates of past students in the program? This could dramatically streamline reviews, while at the same time doing a better job of terminating eligibility for programs that destroy economic value.

Trump made his play with the executive order ending the accreditation monopolies in the US.

DeSantis made his play starting the first major accreditation revolution in the Southeastern United States with reputable AAU members such as Florida, North Carolina, and Texas A&M as members.

Now this new accreditation body should be able to accredit any university in the US, which severely diminishes the political power and political leverage of all of the rest of the accreditation monopolies in the US since they are no longer required for students attending universities in their geographical regions to get federal funding.

That is what this seems to be all about IMO. Trump and DeSantis are playing some really nice political chess here.

This is what I wanted to say and pose to slayer as a question. Is there an overstep by Socialogy departments with respect to curriculum and attempts at social engineering?

Because it comes off a hollow, corporate marketing schlock. At least for some of us.

The American Bar Assoc. threatened George Mason with non-accreditation for not only an overly low minority admission rate to the staunchly conservative law school, but their inexplicable failure rate for African-Americans that was 10 times higher than any other group.

RW has successfully surrounded themselves with “woke.” Weaponized it incredibly effectively to sway people who had no idea what it meant all the way to it now being a screeching siren that you are in line to be the next commander’s handmaid.

I'm wondering if they can possibly make this even more betterer still and have the Trump Organization start an accreditation board. They have a lot of experience with universities, from running Trump University, and they could model that as the basis to receive their A+ accreditation.

Also, this could really be a good professional entry point for Barron, and really allow him the opportunity to get some real-world experience by striking out on his own in the business world, like his brothers and sister did. Plus, he'll be better positioned to continue the Trump legacy/dynasty of really helping people and serving the greater good!

I can’t speak for every university. But lol at that. Social engineering? Lmao. Our departments can barely function sometimes the idea that there is some coordinated social engineering is laughable.

If Barron fails in the business world, and he goes broke he could still have a successful career. Maybe he could become a successful school teacher who uses AI for grading, for lesson planning, so he has hours after work every day, on the weekend, and during the summer to post online with AI about politics. He could really make a difference in the world, while also telling students not to use AI on school assignments. And he lives happily ever after, a life full of joy and happiness the rest of his days.

I think that makes the story a lot better. What do you think?

Sounds highly plausible. I hear Barron's really good with the cyber.
