My only hope is that it was some intentional strategy by his team to buy time, but regardless, why the need if he is innocent.

The MLBPA should tell the Rays they wont fight if it comes to that.

Do you know whether the summons was delivered to wander? The fact that there’s a summons is meaningless if it wasn’t delivered to him. Since they never found him, and he doesn’t have any lawyers in the Dominican Republic representing him right now, I don’t see how a summons would’ve been delivered to him. You don’t show up somewhere because of news that a summons has been issued to you.

 

How did you reach that conclusion? My guess is that he was paying blackmail money to the girl’s mother. Also, how old was wander at the time. Was he a high school kid?

21 is still very immature for a male. I am not offering excuses, but an invitation to better understand how someone with the potential of retiring worth 100’s of millions of dollars could mess up so bad.

He will likely never play MLB again, but he will play somewhere and at a very deep discount.

Oh, I agree and if it is a pattern of behavior, it is even more serious.

But, I am always concerned about the effect of very poor judgement by any male under 25 will have on the rest of their lives.

It is amazing how much more emotionally mature women are at that age.

Today's Tampa Bay Times has a piece that suggests they may be able to get out of his contract using the immigration system. He will not be deemed admissible into the United States come out which means they don't have to pay him. Interesting

 

Two year suspended sentence? After buying a 14 year old from her mom( more of less). Both he and the mom need to be put away never to be seen again. Gross inhumane behavior. Monsters.. both of them.
Child abuse is one of the few things I believe no humane civilized society should tolerate. One of the few things that should carry an automatic death penalty. Dude was 21. Mom pimped her own daughter.. 14 year old.. out to him. Get rid of them both.

 

I agree for the most part, especially in our culture. I do think culturally it is a different world down there irt the ages. Some cultures don't see 14 to 21 as the age difference that we do. (Thus the light sentence maybe?)

Regardless what he did is inexcusable and this idiot threw away one of the most promising futures in sports history.

From a baseball perspective, he was a bad teammate (per Kevin Cash at one point) and was all about himself, so the events in the DR check out from that perspective too

The current Rays roster seems to be full of team first guys that are on one of the best runs in franchise history.
