Yesterday: “I think the ceasefire is unlimited. It's going to go forever,” Trump told NBC News.

It's amazing how delusional the president is.

What’s bizarre, and I mean truly bizarre, is that people are openly hoping there is no ceasefire in fact, just to be able to say Trump was “wrong.”

Lord knows I’m not a Trumper, but I am an American. Can’t we at least get behind a decision, regardless of who is captain, that makes the world a safer place? Geez!!!!

Let's not forget......these are the SAME people who were actually gleeful when someone who was unvaxed died of cv19.

And they feel they are morally and intellectually superior to others......

Ajoe - I would propose, as an American, and as someone who outside of the military industrial complex and the political sphere (war-hawks) that worship hardware, death and destruction, that it would be beneficial if indeed Trump could "pull this off" and the fighting would stop and a peaceful resolution would be the result.

I also think Trump is a fool that will get played by both Netanyahu and the Iranians now. Think about it. Netanyahu's game, for the last 40 years, and stated publicly time and time again is "Regime Change" by eliminating anti Israeli Arab totalitarian leaders and Gov'ts all over the Middle East.
Gaza, Syria, Lebanon, Iran, Egypt, Libya.............you name it.

His tool to accomplish this? The American taxpayer and American Politicians. People on this board can deny this fact all they want but it is as true as the sun rising in the East and setting in the West, the facts are clear. The question we must ask ourselves, is this in the interest of the American People? I'm not sure the voters are cognizant of this fact when they go to the polls, they should be however.

The U.S. has been drawn into what I consider Religion gone Crazy and to it's ultimate extreme, Hebrew vs Arab, Judaism (really Judeo Christianity now) and Islam. War, murder, torture, dirty deals, intrigue, manipulation, genocide, starvation, economic privation and manipulation, kidnapping, assassination, politics, drug dealing, prostitution, crime's against women and children, including forced labor or being sold into the sex trade, slavery,
concentration camps and walls and barbed wire....... and of course racism / ethnic cleansing.........to name (some) of the various aspects of this religious and ideological battle that never ends. Nor will it end, not in our lifetimes, maybe it will in another 1,000 years, but if humans are still around, I doubt it.

This shit is endless, dating back to what in the region? 600-700 BC?? 2,500 years of insanity?

On the Arab side, all of the above applies as well. And WORSE.

Let me ask you - Do you think Netanyahu wants this to end with anything less than Regime Change and israeli / American control of Iran vis a vie like the former Shaw of Iran experiment, brought courtesy of the Eisenhower Administration? Against a democratically elected Iranian president?? Then it was about Oil, now it's about suppression and control. I think Netanyahu's goal is clear, American boots on the ground, the military conquest of Iran and the installation of a Netanyahu approved Gov't cabinet.

The Iranians want the nuke (Israeli is reported to have 200 themselves).

I am not an Anti-Semite and if pushed (under threat of death) I would favor Israeli control of the region. But Netanyahu is a war monger and has been convicted by the International Court of being a war criminal. As long as he is in power this imperialism and war mongering will not stop. After Iran, then who? Turkey? Morocco??

As an American voter, I will not vote for any politician or party that supports this insanity.

Interesting post, and so much to unpack. I’d be the first to agree that religion has been the biggest cause of loss of life in the past 2000+ years. Murdering others for believing a different version of a book is the correct is definitional insanity.

But when fundamentalist regimes, whose open policy is “death to infidels,” exists and arms themselves, we need to take steps to ensure that rhetoric never comes close to reality.

It’s the 21st Century. I’d like to think humans have evolved to a point where we can let others believe what they want, and worship as they wish. But many regimes intentionally abuse religion to maintain power, and propagandize their people to live as if they remain stuck in the 1st Century. And we need to be prepared to defend ourselves against the crazy.

I am NO SUPPORTER of Islam. But I am FAST getting sick of the Orthodox / Conservative power base currently in charge of Israel.
These factions want a fight to the death, IMHO it does NOT benefit the USA to get further entangled in yet another Middle Eastern conflict.
It will cost unlimited amounts of money - and outside of the MIC (Military Industrial Complex) and their stockholders, very few Americans will benefit.

Not to mention the poor military personnel that will have to risk their lives in this insanity.

Sure, finance Israel, but don't put one boot on the ground, let them fight their own war.

We are getting sucked in, while I hope I am wrong, I see Israel and Iran going "tit for tat" to keep the conflict going, with interruptions, in a purposeful campaign for time, leverage and rearmament. I just don't see this thing as being "over" despite what the President claims.

What about the Conservative/Orthodoxy in Iran? I.e. the mullahs.

Not a fan of Netanyahu or Israeli’s corrupt lurch to the right, but he’s the lesser problem here by far.

Let me be clear, it's a choice between religious lunatics on both sides. Ideologically I support Israel when controlled by secular, sane leaders.
I have no illusions about what Islamic fanatic Clerics and their totalitarian puppets bring to the table.

No. I devoutly hope all death and destruction has ended, and a ceasefire will hold for all time. However--I have no faith in, and no respect for, Donald Trump. I think he talks a way better game than he plays.

You are confusing a lack of pie-in-the-sky hope with justified skepticism.

I think what many people are reacting to is the inane and juvenile insertion of dear leader's ego into the social media ( whatever happened to actual diplomatic channels?) claiming crap that wasn't in fact (ever) true. The hyperbolic response that anyone is actually against a ceasefire/peace is unwarranted.

You get what you vote for. Just go back and watch Trump's joint address to congress. The democrats in congress are a disgrace to the nation yet leftist continue to vote for their special brand of anti-American and anti-Israel/antisemitic BS.

Think Iran should recognize Israel's right to exist, but that isn't necessary to end hostilities. A couple of of dimwit guests on Fox last night want a requirement that Iran join the Abraham Accords. Hells bells, even Saudi Arabia hasn't done that yet and may not just to ensure they don't face a revolt by their people.

@coleg gives a nice response to this pearl clutching hyperbole.

I would like to also pt out that your post assumes a ceasefire is the correct course of action without any evidence. People can be pro ceasefire for partisan reasons too.

sure seems a lot of pro ceasefire folks were singing a different tune just 2 weeks ago

Seriously you have Iran and Israel - neither known for their restraint - and Trump unilaterally announces a ceasefire? But we can’t say point out the obvious?
