Also this statement is very ignorant and offensive on many different levels.

    1. Jews are Middle Eastern
    2. Isreal is in the Middle East.
    3. Jesus was middle eastern
    4. Iran does not represent the entire Middle East.
    5. Prior to the current regime, Iran was a free country where women wore miniskirts and swimsuits in public.
    6. There are middle eastern Christians.

So your point is not well taken.

That's what I'm talking about ... In your mind, brown peasants chanting "death to America" in streets half way around the world creates an "unsafe environment" in America to the point that it justifies bombing their country... but a white guy in America promoting the extermination of jews on Social media doesn't necessarily create an "unsafe environment" for anyone ... sounds a bit off, but you got to support the team, I get that.

That is perhaps the most pathetic attempt to dodge the question I have ever seen here.

Still confused by your point. The US never intended on killing anyone. Not sure of any reports we did kill anyone, unless they were in proximity to the nuclear sites. Essentially we removed the gun from the hands of the killer. So how does the US bombing nuclear site compare to a student? BTW. I have no clue what the color of this student’s skin is and nor do I care.

I'm not sure what 'killing anyone' has to do with what I said, although I seriously doubt that we dropped bunker busters on 3 nuclear sites and didn't kill anyone. I mean, how do you imagine this, the Iranian scientists turn off the lights and clock out of their nuclear facilities at beer 30? All the security goes home, too? You can't be serious with that.

And if you had comprehended what I had wrote, you said you are giving this racist hate speech monger a pass unless you can see he directly created an "unsafe environment", while yesterday you cited "death to America" chants as a reason for America to take action against Iran, even though those peasants have no ability to kill anyone in America ... so again, just pointing out that your views of harmless speech changes based who said it.

And finally, I would guess that guy at UF is a keyboard warrior who will likely never lift a finger to directly harm a Jewish or black person. He expects other people to do it for him. Repeated exposure to shit like he posts is what radicalizes people, so whether you want to believe it or not, he is likely taking some small part in future Muders.

That you're not allowed to advocate for ideas the government finds offensive? You really want that standard? Keep in mind what DeSantis and the Florida Legislature will be able to do with that power (something private universities don't have to worry about, in a direct sense at least). The same principles that prevented the Stop WOKE Act from making it illegal to discuss systemic racism at Florida's public universities are also what protect this white supremacist's speech.

And I'm not sure what you mean by "coddle" here. We coddle third graders because they're not adults. This guy is one. He has First Amendment rights, which protects his right to articulate his shitty views. His classmates can and do hate him. He's making himself damn near unemployable. He'll face social consequences. But the government punishing him for expressing his appalling ideas should not and cannot be one of those consequences, at least not based on current reporting. Grade him based on the same criteria everybody else is graded on.

The answer here is that UF is wrong in both instances (and other instances where it has abandoned free speech principles).

Funny that WDG isn't attacking the liberal lawyer "defending" him here.... just you.

BTW, both you and the liberal lawyer are correct in my opinion and that liberal lawyer has been absent too much and welcome back to him. :)

The intellectual challenge of my debate shrinks when he is not here. :D

To be clear, I'm not defending Damsky or the paper. I'm defending free speech principles. Damsky is an unabashed white supremacist. His classmates and future employers have every right to shun him. But if he writes a paper based on his personal beliefs, it should be graded based on the same criteria as everybody else's. It is hard for me to believe the paper he wrote was the best because it cherry-picks evidence, gets a lot wrong from a historical perspective, and requires accepting the premise that the Reconstruction Amendments are illegitimate. But I didn't read his paper and didn't read the others, so I don't have the necessary information here.

Nor am I defending his tweet. I am Jewish. It is obvious how I personally feel about it. But my recourse for personally disliking his tweet is to not interact with him socially. Can the government (which includes UF) punish him for that tweet? IMO, no. Obviously, UF disagrees. But I think they're wrong for doing it, just like they were wrong for how they handled the pro-Palestinian students (and a myriad of other things over the past few years). If we are committed to free speech (and I am), we must afford the same protection to the views that most offend and appall us as we do to the views we most agree with.

Dumb comment from you…. If you scroll up, you’ll see that the back and forth was started by him responding to a post I made, and went on to make comments to defend the white supremicist paper as “probably not that offensive” …. Show me where someone else said that, or even anything close to that… I also think that defending what he said as free speech doesn’t stand up anymore in Florida…. If we can kick teachers off campus for saying “gay” then we should be able to kick students off campus saying “eliminate all the Jews”…. Seems fair…

Yes, that is in fact what you're getting. But is that the Florida you want to live in?

We surely wouldn’t tolerate a Muslim student ranting about wanting to “eliminate” all the white Christian kids… he’d probably be arrested for making terrorist threats, right? If the article is accurate, I don’t have a problem with trespassing him for his social media posts. I’d rather not have UF associated with him than whatever fallout they get from censoring hate speech.

    Right here
I know your post was probably meant to be satirical, but funny enough, I have three friends that went to UF for law, and they are all conservatives, with one being religiously MAGA.

That would be an illegal arrest if he was purely engaged in political advocacy. You may prefer UF not be associated with him, but that wasn't my question. My question was if you're happy with the state of free speech in Florida.

No, I’m really not, but I don’t think this is the hill to die on. Promoting genocide as a political solution, IMO, crosses a line where I think it’s okay for officials to say a person is too dangerous to have on campus. I mean, how many times after a school shooting have we looked at the shooter’s social media history, and said, “gee, should have seen this coming”. Not saying this guy was anything more than a keyboard warrior, but I’m okay with erroring on the side on caution when someone’s social media presence looks that bad.

I think they're all terrain worth fighting upon. It's the principle that matters.
That sounds great in theory . . . until DeSantis says that advocating for reproductive rights is promoting the genocide of the "unborn." There's a reason why we've settled on not drawing these lines as a matter of principle. It's because when you give the government that power, it abuses it. It's much easier to choose neutrality and accept the bad that comes with it than it is to give the authority to the government and accept the bad that comes with that imo. We can mock and ostracize some white supremacist spouting garbage. The government, on the other hand, can legally use violence and imprisonment against you.

Now, some standards are relaxed at universities in recognition of the school's educational mission. But I still don't believe it meets even that lower standard.

"All the L's I hung on you" Sounds like a delusional Tennessee football fan talking about the last 20 years.
