See, the thing is... home in time for dinner with the fam, just doesn’t really amount to "committing troops to conflict".

I mean...one night stands =/= commitment, by definition.

I say this as a recovering commitmentphobe, who very much appreciated the one night stand (before succumbing to a chronic case of marriage...).

this isn’t one of those deals where trump can just declare a win when there isn’t one and move on, the other side gets a say.
Unconfirmed reports tonight about closing the straits of Hormuz among other things.

Not the specific law but from the Iraq war power resolution it gives a broader explanation of when Congress expects it.
“"(b) Presidential Determination.—In connection with the exercise of the authority granted in subsection (a) to use force the President shall, prior to such exercise or as soon thereafter as may be feasible, but no later than 48 hours after exercising such authority, make available to the Speaker of the House of Representatives and the President pro tempore of the Senate his determination that—”

Trump probably realized that hey, a war would totally boost the economy and I can take credit for it? Bombs away!

Would you prefer Iran be able to have a nuclear weapon?

I’d prefer if the moron in chief hadn’t ripped up the previous agreement that was enforcing them from getting to this point..

Pretty naive to think that would have prevented it

We will never know. The point is yesterday’s actions were ALWAYS an option if the nuclear deal didn’t work and Iran violated the deal. The stark reality is we didn’t give it a chance to work.

He rips up the enforceable agreement from his predecessor just because, replaces it with nothing, and fast forward is now bombing Iran because they are apparently “weeks away”..

What was naive was not thinking this was always going to be the outcome once he rescinded the agreement..

Seems like no matter who is president, we can’t stay out of the Middle East.

Trump is going to lose support and rightfully so.

Watch both sides argue now over this being constitutional as if the US hasn’t been air striking the Middle East for over a decade now without congressional approval.

Trump will justify the attacks under article II just like Biden did.

They might be, but as Dan Carlin recently said on his Common Sense podcast, that fig leaf of protection as part of the separation of powers came off a LONG time ago as you have pointed out. I don't want to derail the main conversation, but it is an important one to have; the current powers of the executive branch and the need to reign it in, no matter how important the "reason" is to exercise it.

Again, you can’t be serious about this. There’s just too much out there now that Iran was not complying with that agreement and never intended to. If you didn’t believe Israel in 2017, I kind of understand. Not believing Israel today after Israel last week revealed how deeply they had penetrated the Iranian nuclear weapons program is just silly.
