That's Layla Lamar. Though no official announcement has been made, On3 is showing her 100% to Arizona.
I think that’s an unfair, simplistic response. Nobody yet is all doom and gloom but the mere suggestion that we’re not necessarily lighting things up in the transfer portal receives an instant insinuation that whoever dare questions is a big ol negative Nancy.
Someone had made a fake post on Facebook the other day saying that Layla had committed to TT, her father commented that it was fake (obviously) and to please stop posting fake nonsense, he said Layla was still 100% uncommitted.
Someone please explain to me for I know nothing. Softball team is currently struggling in the portal whether it is incoming or outgoing players and the consensus is it is because of our lack of NIL money. Does that mean the gymnastics team has tons of NIL money for that team is loaded with good athletes. Very few transfer out & JR reloads every year with top recruiting classes and through the portal.
From what I understand, gymnastics nationwide hasn't got caught up in all the pay to play money that has been thrown into "other" sports like softball. There are HUGE private corporate interests throwing literally millions of dollars into softball programs and that's not happening (yet) with gymnastics. Florida softball simply does not have the corporate sponsorships that 10-12 other universities have because it seems virtually ALL of our corporate donors are giving money to football and men's basketball. In softball, we are limited by what UAA allocates to the program, plus what is specifically directed to the program through our NIL conglomerates. And right now it simply isn't enough to pay for the elite players that choose to go elsewhere. We are pretty much getting those softball players who are willing to take less than they could get from other schools just because they want to be part of the University of Florida and our softball program. Here's a link that explains the new revenue sharing agreement and what the NCAA hopes will happen with NIL deals in the future: NCAA Revenue Sharing & NIL Estimates 2025
Gymnastics isn’t as impacted for one simple reason: There isn’t a program in Texas to drive the prices up. TTU, UT and TAMU have been three of the primary drivers of the insane NIL numbers, and none have gymnastics teams. Nor does Miami who helped drive up football costs, or SJU who helped drive up basketball costs. The only big spender in the sport is Oklahoma, and that’s a large reason why they have been winning. The other reason is that a lot of the top athletes in this sport can command actual NIL money from legit sponsors, so it mutes the effect of private pay for play spending a bit.
I thank ocala and oragator for their response. Should I assume the Gators are going to loose some of the loaded 26 recruiting class because of the lack of NIL funds?
UF Softball NIL: $Meager Other softball teams NIL: $Crapton UF Gymnastics NIL: $Meager Other gymnastics teams NIL: $Meager When it's a level playing field, UF rocks.
We shall see, but won't be surprised. It's a mess for sure. Amateur athletics is a thing of the past.
Sorry, just a little self-deprecating humor. A reminder not to take ourselves too seriously. Is it applicable to some? Sure. Is it applicable to many, probably not. Perspective may shift based on posts that draw our attention, but it's all good. Go GATORS! ,WESGATORS
There's somewhat broad agreement that Title IX applies to opportunities and not compensation. Football/Basketball generated the NIL cash, so those players benefit the most. NIL payments aren’t ‘scholarship aid’ as covered by Title IX. But, yeah, this is gonna be litigated. At least with the House settlement, we can sort of move forward. And obviously, the college sports that we knew and loved are gone forever. Team doesn't mean anything. Tradition doesn't mean anything. Cash means everything.
I, for one, took it exactly like that and rated it FUNNY when I first saw it. Clearly, no harm intended.
Is there any other places we can find talent besides the portal? Do players from two year programs (JUCO) enter the portal? Are there players that did not sign after high school who deserve a second look. Any warm bodies anywhere?
Maybe it’s me trying to put a positive spin on things, but I wonder if CTW took a page from CTG on finding kids from lower conferences with something to prove and gratitude for the chance to play at a big school.
