In addition to D, Martin’s value was his maturity and experience. To bring in a starter from FAU that had been to a final 4 the prior year was a big win for TG
Did not realize Condon had not been home for 12 months due to distance. Makes his effort last year even more impressive
We might not have the perimeter defenders we had last year but hopefully with another year of development our frontcourt will be even better than last year in limiting 2nd chance opportunities. We should have the highest offensive rebounding rate in the country too with Hands, Chins, Haugh, Condo. Wonder who will be our 5th big - if any rotational minutes go to Mikic or Ollie. I think we go small with 1 or 2 of the Browns and Urby. It's going to be awfully hard for anyone outside that group (plus our starting guards) to get playing time
Condon (along with Richard, Martin and Walt) had very little time to celebrate the National Championship as he almost immediately turned his focus to the NBA Draft. Between the intense preparation, the combine and individual team workouts, Condon definitely put in almost two months of extra work and definitely deserves some downtime. He’ll be fine when he gets back on campus.
If I may opine, it seems to me this "basketball" thing as a potential profession was not pie-in-the-sky for him. He changed gears from Aussie football and took it seriously, even at his young age. Remember, he didn't grow up on the city streets of Brooklyn or Chicago, he was pretty novel. Last year's schedule was his determination, along with his taking his time to return. A VERY determined young man and I expect a focused terror on the college basketball scene this season. He I believe is going to the whip, along with his front court brethren. All we need is some quality play from our back court, especially when things go sideways as they always do, and then watch in awe. Is it November yet? Or do we have to do that football thingy first?
So, in the last week or so, I've seen two separate things online that list Chinyelu as 6'-11". This past season he was listed at 6'-10". Has he truly gotten taller or are we just fudging things a little? That happens a lot in college ball. Condo was listed as 6'-11" all season and that's what he clocked in at at the NBA combines, in bare feet. He's a legit 6'-11" guy.
Reub measured in at 6’9 barefoot. Listed heights are typically with shoes, so 6’10 is reasonable. 6’11 would be a stretch.
