I can see why the Pakistani government would appreciate the guy having masked men pull people off the street and throwing them into vans or sending people convicted of no crime to prison for indefinite periods where they could be tortured. It is a common interest.

Trump bragged that he stopped the war. The India government said that Trump had nothing to do with it, and Modi told Trump in a phone call with Trump, that Trump had nothing to do with it. I believe that Trump claims that he promised to make great trade deals with India and Pakistani, and that stopped the skirmish.
