Of course, this is about Juneteenth. He can't just come out and explicitly say that, so he has to come at it sideways, with deceit, faux patriotism, and not one iota of subtlety.

Only problem I have with “Juneteenth” is the same. I understand the roots, but that’s colloquial. The official name should be Emancipation Day, and if people want to refer to it as Juneteenth informally, then no problem. But I feel like an idiot saying that name out loud as an adult.

Well, that's not really a thing. That's what California (maybe some other states; no idea) chooses to call Columbus Day. But Columbus Day is the official federal holiday.

good points. It also doesn’t require an explanation and has more meaningful messaging.

Obviously not. In fact businesses frequently use federal holidays and including solemn holidays like Veterans Day and Memorial Day as vehicles to promote sales.

Lol. You need to get out more. I know more people who were off then on, and in my company the few who did work got double pay for it.

It’s not leap years, but it is sometimes the 22nd.

A good rule of thumb is the 21st for all solstices/equinoxes but it varies by a day or so for each.

Equinoxes are generally 20th or 22nd/23rd.

But again, 21st is a good day to remember overall to get you in the neighborhood for any of them.

Call it. Most white collar jobs celebrate all the fed days.

I suspect Trump is wrong. I bet holidays are a boon to bidness & they don’t cost us billions. This is the guy who thinks making iPhones here would make us wealthier.

Exactly. People spend money on holidays. And white collar work just catches up. My deadlines dont move because I celebrated a holiday

Well, frankly my rejoinder to her would be if the Holocaust had been wholly or partially sponsored by the U.S. and/or took place in the U.S., then this would be a great point. On the other hand, if modern-day Germany took a day to observe the anniversary that the U.S. completed the emancipation of slaves, then that would be a real head scratcher.

Obviously, but it’s fascinating all the different ways folks like her find to justify their “beliefs”, which are clearly set light years from whatever justifications they come up with.
