This will likely send some of our resident MAGA's over an edge. Personally, I don't like performing the National Anthem only in Spanish, I would prefer English and Spanish if you are going to do something like this. That said, it does not really move the "outrage" needle for me, I just thought it was an interesting tact by the performer and equally interesting "hands off" approach by the Dodgers organization. I am going to guess that the Dodgers will not have this person back any time soon? https://www.cnn.com/2025/06/18/sport/nezza-national-anthem-dodgers-spt
I am reading in a couple of places now that the singer named Nezza was told not to sing it in Spanish and did anyway. I read also that she was booed by the fans and told to leave and not come back by the Dodger organization.
Do I agree with them doing this- no Since I no longer watch MLB- there is nothing I can do about it. So why let it upset me!!
Apparently Teddy FDR sanctioned the official govt “Spanish version” in the 1940’s (which I did not know previously, but found interesting). I don’t think it’s particularly disrespectful even when used as a sort of “protest” like this. Apparently the woman wanted to do both but was told only 90 seconds so she went with it. Not a big deal, and apparantly she is NOT going to be banned. Obviously the standard is English but the Dodgers have 40-45% Latino audience demographic so they will also cater to that.
Personally I don’t really care. But a large part of the backlash against illegal immigration is that it strips the existing culture by shear volume. All stunts like this do is play into that narrative and alienate the very people they need on their side. So just like a lot of the BLM protests, it’s counterproductive behavior cloaked in “bravery” or “truth telling” that give the other side the exact ammunition they need.
You’re quite the patriot. Do you know what bothers me? Pete Hegseth being the secretary of defense bothers me.
