New U.S. Navy Aircraft Carrier To Be Named USS Musk

Hopefully, this is a tongue-in-cheek thing, but if not it looks like I was right that we need actual legislation to determine how ships are named in order to depoliticize the process. I have already mentioned my framework in other threads but will here again:

- Traditional historic names (Enterprise, Constellation, Essex, etc)

- U.S. (no Confederate) victories greater than 50 years ago (Saratoga, Ticonderoga, Midway, etc)

- U.S. military and political figures who have been dead greater than 50 years (George Washington, Oliver Hazard Perry, Frank Knox, etc)

- Awardees of the Medal of Honor, living or dead, who have never served in political life (not so much as head of their homeowners’ association); otherwise, they qualify after being dead for 50 years.

The Secretary of the Navy appoints a board to name new ships, the Board proposes names within the rules to Congress with a brief justification, and Congress votes up or down once on the naming of each ship. If Congress votes down, the Board has to come back with a different name.

 

Or to save money, sell naming rights

Very glad to hear it. But it is not any sillier than naming a vessel after a guy who was awarded an Other-Than-Honorable Discharge from the U.S. Navy.

Yes it was although considering that when it was originally posted Trump and Musk were still in the midst of their bromance and based on Trump's history of deviating from norms it was actually somewhat believable.

 

A less reported part to the story is that it will now be called an X-craft carrier.

Under the current administration, it took lots of people quite a while to realize that it was only a joke to name a USN ship after the President’s top financial contributor influence buyer.

Hahahaha!

I don't know about everyone else, but I think this is great! Just what will make America great (again) too.

I don't know what could be next : a cryptocurrency from a sitting President, name calling on multiple social media platforms, or maybe cutting rich people's taxes and poor people's health care while adding $3 trillion to the debt.

Whatever it is, I'm sure it will be great and .... funny ..... and I can't wait!
