As someone previously stated, she would be an excellent get if CTW can make it happen. Does anyone have insight? Texas Tech Softball Loses Star Infielder to Transfer Portal
She played SS & 3B in high school and was, also, the #11 pitcher in the 2024 recruiting class. She played for the Hotshots travel ball team and was listed as 3b, P & UTL, assuming versatility. If we could get her, I'm sure CTW would find a spot for her to play and personally I would prefer her as our third baseman. Better offensive numbers by a long shot. Plus another 2-way player who could help in the circle.
I suppose it matters who you ask in terms of "the original intent." SIDs and those in charge of compliance will likely have a different perspective on this. From my perspective, the help that you refer to was never more than the pretty package with a bow that made it universally satisfying to most of the naysayers. NIL was always about the lack of restrictions on FMV and having the lid completely blown off of any need to have a viable cover. That's not to say that there aren't legitimate advertising spots where value given is seen as an investment in an actual business, but I don't think it was ever reasonable to believe that that use case was going to be the primary mover of money in the world of NIL. You add that to the freedom for players to move at will, and you get the environment that we have now. It was the only way things could possibly have progressed. Go GATORS! ,WESGATORS
Any idea if we will get more from portal and when will it be announced? Need a bunch more just to have an inter squad game.
The portal closes today and there aren't many players left who could help the team, IMO. There are a few out there, but I haven't seen Florida's name associated with any of them, My guess is we will sign 2-3 more on top of the 2 we've already got, but am just guessing and have no idea who. CTW may try to get a couple ladies from next year's recruiting class to enroll early like he did with Kylie Shaw & Makenna Bellaire this season, but they wouldn't be available until January. One thing I'm curious about. Layla Lamar has been in the portal since June 2, all indications are that she's going to Arizona and yet nothing has been made official from anywhere I've seen. A June 14, Sports Illustrated article said that she had committed to the Wildcats, but that's it. Even Arizona's softball webpage makes no mention of Lamar as an addition. Maybe she's reconsidering??
Nothing firm I can find on Lamar and she hasn't removed her UF references on her twitter page. I do think she is gone, however.
One negative aspect to note is that we encouraged two early enrollees to come, and then let them down after the season was over. It may be challenging to obtain more.
