The Trump administration is considering cutting federal education funds to California, according to people familiar with the administration’s thinking. The discussion comes as Gov. Gavin Newsom and President Donald Trump feud over the president’s deployment of the National Guard to LA to stop immigration protests.

A Trump administration employee, who was not permitted to speak publicly about the administration’s plans, told POLITICO the Education Department may stop the disbursement of “formula funds,” which are awards based on a predetermined formula created by Congress. The administration has not yet reached a decision, according to a separate person familiar with the discussions. The timing for a potential decision is also not finalized.

“That is one of the tools and the opportunities that we have with California,” Education Secretary Linda McMahon said of the potential to pull the state’s funds on Tuesday at an event hosted by Bloomberg News. “And I think it’s right that we make them aware that that is a risk that they run.”

Punish the poor and disabled! That'll show 'em! If you think you've seen enough protests just wait until a stunt like this is pulled

Trump is a criminal. When he's in charge of the federal government, it stands to reason that the federal government will do illegal things. (That's exactly what happened during his first term as pseudo-President.)

The only interesting thing about this is how many MAGA people will scroll right past this and ignore it, if not actually condone this outright criminality.

Also; Just wait until President AOC threatens all federal money to Florida unless the state govt improves (in her opinion) environmental laws. Will MAGA be on-board with the President's power, or will they be fully hypocritical?

Hypocritical authoritarians wanting it both ways. More than happy to collect all that revenue from CA ( they pay in more than they get back), yet they want to withhold funding to CA at the same time.

Sounds a bit like taxation without representation.

Your posts convey about as much information as do those of that GIF-only guy. I don't do many of those not-funny GIF things, but I think I can contrive a metaphor; if your posts were food they'd have the nutritional content of spam.

Um, I thought the Project 2025 agenda was getting rid of Dept of Ed? So aren't all the states in jeopardy of having their Federal funding slashed?

The only departments the federal gov't should have:

I legitimately think there are people in the administration, possibly including the President, that literally don't know that 6 million people in California voted for him. It's almost 8% of his total voting block.

Easily one of the worst development in US politics was the notion of "red" and "blue" states and the discourse around it. Its made things really stupid, of course the electoral college is really stupid, so it tracks, unfortunately.
