Its similar to when minorities riot in their own neighborhoods. Why? Im not calling for violence but if people believe this is a resistance then it should be taken to the neighborhoods that house the politicians that are so disconnected from the average citizen and grandstand from the comfort of their protected mansions.

Because that's where they live? People say this a lot, but would you hand it to them if they came to places other people lived or worked and destroyed things? Anyways you would be hard pressed to find a riot that didnt result from some sort of confrontation. Violence spirals, that's why deescalation is the best tactic, always. Of course, this only works if people are willing to negotiate and find solutions. But the problem is we have a government that does not want to respond to their citizens and is only concerned about public safety in the abstract to justify brutality as its problem solving mechanism. There is an idea here that authority is right, end of story.

Trump could have directed ICE to peacefully go to the employers of illegal immigrants. This could even have been as much to prevent employment operations as to arrest people ..... and had the same eventual result. Probably at fraction of the cost.

But Trump just wants his charade. And the violence, so he can be able to play his role of (fake) strongman in the charade.

So sad that Americans fall for this.

Yet the constitution is not being violated (by the Republicans), no matter what Maddow tells you people.

There's a lot of things that don't seem to bother left coasters but does the rest of the country. Might want to think about that.

I thought the new right wing liked tourists. What's the big deal?

That's how it starts, you were wondering why it keeps happening. People show up and mostly do nothing serious other than yell slogans etc, cops tell them to leave, they don't, cops escalate and attempt to disperse, anarchy ensues as cops attempt to arrest and use gas. Rinse and repeat the next day. How do you stop people from showing and gathering? Put the whole city on lockdown? They already had curfews and stuff. Freedom of assembly is in the Constitution, so how do you stop it? Eventually it stops itself, as energy stalls.

I think you should think about why we should be using the national guard to make people who don't live somewhere and aren't affected feel better. People dont like meddlers and busybodies.

I'm feel pretty confident that freedom of assembly can be paused under those circumstances. Do you remember how/why it ended?

Constitutional rights "paused?" I dont think that's how it works, people still have to assemble for an assembly to be declared unlawful.

How did it end? People stop showing up, things just petered out. Like the Occupy encampment that was here back in 2011, the cops generally didn't do anything, and people just got tired of staying in a tent down town after a few weeks. People act like demonstrations of force are effective, generally its just letting the energy trickle down, people get bored and go home.

And there lies the problem with the west coast. They only follow or enforce laws which align with their ideology.

Also, nice attempt to frame this as a national guard vs illegal immigrants thing. So, MSNBC. The guard is there because federal laws (like assaulting ICE officers) have been broken and the left-wing ideologues in that state do not want to do anything about it. Like in Portland, it doesn't fit their agenda.

I mean, that is bullshit, they aren't ignoring any laws, and people have the right to protest anywhere in this country. If California isnt autocratic enough for some guy in Arkansas, that is their problem, not California's.

Really? So me and a few buddies can just walk up to a crime scene and start hanging out? I guarantee you there are laws giving the government the power to clear an area because crimes have been committed or out of safety concerns.

You still have to go there to be cleared out. The cops aren't like "until crime stops, no one can gather in public." And generally they do let you hang out on the other side of the police line.

So, it had nothing to do with Biden finally stepping in after he was getting murdered in the polls on this issue?
