I haven’t followed this closely but this seems like yet another political landmine for Democrats. Yes, in theory, it should be up to the state to decide to engage the national guard. But if you look how Oregon handled the protests, it looked pretty bad with with a bunch of nut jobs occupying government buildings for days or weeks. In these blue states politicians are hesitant to enforce law and order if the protests and even violence is perceived to be for a righteous cause.

The p25 folks would be downright orgasmic if troops were sent into blue cities to crack some heads.

You should travel through rural N Carolina more often, but fair enough.

I was auto-corrected, thanks, now spelled correctly.

While I disagree with her characterization, the tweet was wildly inaccurate. She's not a "CNN contributor". She's a California Democratic politician (representative to be exact) who was interviewed by CNN.

By the way the Donald's decision to deploy the National Guard against the wishes of the governor is nothing more than a political stunt. The LA police and the LA Country Sheriff's Office demonstrated that they are more than capable of containing the relatively minor disturbances. The last time state National Guard troops were deployed against the wishes of the governor was in 1965 when LBJ deployed the Alabama National Guard to protect a Black student who was integrating the University of Alabama and to maintain the peace at the University.

They're talking about how to legally observe. That's terrorism?

How so? He's the president and the difference would be it's federal territory, of which he's in charge.

DOGE already found that voting scam. That is being investigated, I am sure.

The justification expressed in the order for deploying the National Guard in LA was to deter an insurrection. The difference between this and January 6 was that January 6 was an insurrection on Trump’s behalf and Trump refused to call out the National Guard. LA was a violent riot. On a smaller scale.

The D.C. National Guard is unique in that it is always under the president's control

My issue is not against taking strong measures to stop the riot, but the unnecessary deployment of the national guard by the president when it was not asked for by California. And I am dead set against using marines in American cities.

It’s a feature of modern day Republicans.

I speak only for self, but I consistently say in both cases, serve them the law. I have no problem (even if I disagree with) peaceful protest of either the 2020 election results or enforcement of our immigration laws. I categorically have a problem with violently storming the Capitol and/or violently interfering with law enforcement officers in the conduct of their sworn duties.

There’s some false narrative out there that Pelosi had a say in whether or not the national guard could be called up.
