There was an implication that this was in response to an Egyptian being responsible for the attack in Colorado. No idea if that is true or not. Interesting list of countries banned, however if he is trying to prevent terrorists since neither Egypt nor Saudi Arabia are on that list of banned countries. Also, what terrorist ever came from Haiti or Myanmar? These countries seem more like places where life is horrible and people just want to have a chance at a better life somewhere else?? https://www.nytimes.com/live/2025/06/05/us/trump-news-travel-ban
Seems like a whole lot of Racism in that list.... But the glorious and omnipotent orange skidmark would never do anything that would amount to a racist act.....
Burma is a corrupt military dictatorship, seems like their utopia tbh, surprised they arent taking notes
They are going to have to figure out how to do that since Iran will be in the World Cup, and Haiti is in the Gold Cup this summer
good point. Perhaps they will require those countries to field teams that aren't made up of random people. This way they would be known entities.
I'm pretty sure hosting requires fans from those countries being able to attend, I'm assuming there are already exceptions for players and staff
Money is made by fans coming and buying tickets, staying in hotels, having sex with hookers, consuming legendary amounts of booze, etc.
Look at the state of US diplomacy. About half of ambassadorships are open: Ambassadors of the United States - Wikipedia & most of the rest are career civil-service holdovers from the Biden administration. Trump/Rubio have only gotten 11 appointments for 13 countries through! (France/Monaco and Italy/San Marino do double duty.)
The Senate Dems are playing games with the process. On a side note: What do you think about the supercritical sCO2 turbines? Are they that good at increasing power generation compared to the older steam powered turbines?
Best I can tell, Trump hasn't nominated anyone to be Ambassador to Germany, India, or Pakistan (as well as others). Pretty dang important countries, no? Trump didn't have a lineup card when elected in 2016, Senate Republicans blocked Biden in 2021, Senate Democrats block now in 2025. Perhaps a rare real case of Both Sides! LWR/SCWR: will always be steam turbines HTGR/GFR: will always be direct Brayton turbines LFR/SFR: Sub-critical water, supercritical water, helium/nitrogen, sub-critical CO2, or super-critical CO2. Or even a combined cycle. So many options and so closely tied to temperature. Super-critical CO2 technology seems a lot better than the last time I ran all the numbers (c. 2018) and it might be the winner now. (Ask me again in ten months -- this will be an update in a UF course in Spring 2026.) That said, this is a 10% effect on whether we build LFR/SFR at all. MoltenSalt: I'm a molten salt skeptic, at least in the US. But the power cycle is the same as LFR/SFR, with strong leaning away from water. (Maybe let's not let this "US diplomacy" thread become a "nuclear tech" thread. The PM and new thread buttons are always close by.)
Yeah... not intended to change the thread subject, but I know you're into this tech and though I would ask you while you were here. Thanks, and it seems that the material make-up of these sCO2 turbines is the only real hold up... heat and pressures are high.
That's 2/3 of technical limits on nuclear tech -- heat, pressure, neutron fluence (neutrons per unit area until replacement).
Difficult but not impossible. The blanket ban for Afghans would affect Afghani citizens who aid American troops in Afghanistan or Afghani citizens with relatives in the US as much as it would affect potential terrorists.
But the afghan citizens that aided American troops are already taken care of. Or at least I would have assumed there was a plan before biden just pulled out
