Going to the wine cellar (I built one in a large first floor closet with a refrigeration unit designed to keep the air moist. I holds about 180 bottles) to pick out a single vineyard Rochioli pinot noir to pair with dinner. Or maybe a Rhys.
I’m grilling chicken halves tonight over cherry wood smoke. I’ll season the bird with coarse black pepper and original Everglades seasoning. Our sides will be a freshly made Romaine salad topped with vine ripe tomatoes and Texas toast with garlic spread. It’s raining here so a tumbler of Elijah Craig for me and Ms. Jan will enjoy her wine. Life is good in Gator Nation!
Friday was NY strip steaks first cooked on the KJ and then seared on a hot cast iron skillet. Saturday I was down in Sunrise with my son to see the Panthers play the Hurricanes in hockey. We had dinner at Shake Shack. Sunday was rapini with bowtie pasta and last night was a corn, lima bean and andouille soup/stew. Tonight is just simple Tex-Mex tacos.
Tonight we are visiting friends for dinner and bringing wine and something my wife saw somewhere called cowboy caviar as a "salsa" for dipping. I have to finish it in a few minutes so that it is properly chilled. Cleaned my Blue Star range today after letting go a bit too long. It got to the point that I removed the burner tubes to get under them for a deep clean. Several hours well spent. Open burners have many advantages when cooking but clean up is not one of them.
Last night was my MIL'S 93rd birthday. I wanted to cook dinner but was out voted and we got Mexican take-out from a downtown place. It was pretty good. Tonight I am making a chopped salad.
We are having Ms. Jan’s homemade chicken pot pie for supper tonight. Fried cornbread will be on the side. A tumbler of Elijah Craig works for me and Ms. Jan will enjoy her wine. Life is good in Gator Nation!
Lunch today was shawarma chicken with cabbage/red pepper/onion stir fry and fried rice on the blackstone. Homemade shawarma marinade. Bird Spent 24 hrs in the marinade. Half sweet/unsweetened tea with lemon.
Grilled Garlic herb pork tenderloin, with garlic mashed potatoes, roasted Brussel sprouts and corn on the cob. No alcohol just sweet tea.
Tonight, hot dogs. I was stopping at a local convenience store on my way home earlier and there was a guy out front grilling hot dogs for a benefit. Wasn’t a fan of the dogs he was grilling, but thought “dam, that smells good”. I texted my wife to grab Nathan’s and buns on the way home. I usually make a production with hot dogs …slaw, meat sauce etc. I just went simple. Mustard, ketchup, hot pepper relish and onions …with chips. Hit the spot! Go Gators
We are picking up supper tonight from Ably’s Chinese & Thai. Ice cold longnecks and chilled wine will be our choices of libations tonight. Life is good in Gator Nation!
Yesterday I was at Publix and pork tenderloins were BOGO. They come in packs of two. Tonight I will roast a pair in a sesame teriyaki marinade and make rice as a side. Leftover pork tenderloin will go into an escarole soup later this week.
The newer butcher shop here has started carrying the country cut ribs like I used to get in Marianna. Tonight I’m grilling country cut ribs seasoned with coarse black pepper and Everglades original seasoning. Our sides are going to be Julienne potatoes and zipper peas. Ice cold longnecks and chilled wine are on hand for the evening. Life is good in Gator Nation!
It’s cut up towards the front of the shoulder-quite a bit meatier than regular ribs — has a short 1”—1 1/4” bone on the end of it.
Got you. Not really ribs per se but are akin to ribs. Works for me. Tonight we are having an Asian chicken recipe that my wife saw online. I made the marinade and she will wok it. It looks good. Tomorrow we are going to Jax to see a AAA game. I am hoping that they have a deal on Jumbo Shrimp to eat. LOL.
Had a nice time at the Jumbo Shrimp hosting Bulls game last night in Jax. Nice venue and cheaper beer and better and cheaper food than at Condron. Pretty high level play, too. My wife and I split a locally made sausage with grilled (on a flat top) veggies. It was a special weekend with the Jumbo Shrimp playing in Jacksonville Red Caps uniforms and the Durham Bulls were in Durham Black Sox uniforms commemorating Negro League teams. No, they weren't flannel like they would have been back then. LOL. A couple of huge differences between a AAA game and a college game. Wooden bats, shorter pitch clock, limited throws to first but the home plate blue still calls balls and strikes but one can challenge the call and then the automated system can be consulted. Each team is allowed up to two incorrect challenges. It was used once on a critical at bat in the eighth inning. I'd love to see a game with Head calling the balls and strikes under these rules.
