I have an ego blower, trimmer and mower. Love them all. Especially the trimmer which automatically feeds the line when it needs to without me having to do anything. They're far more convenient than gas powered. This is the 3rd season i've had my Ego mower. The model I have used 2 5AH batteries. My yard is 1/3 acre and the past 2 years i've had no problem mowing the yard on a single charge. This year i've had some issues with the battery lasting for the whole yard. It's probably a combination of the grass being longer early in the season and the batteries perhaps not lasting as long as they used to. The past 2 mowings I have had no problems finishing on a single charge. When my charge does run out, I would just start weed whacking and blowing while the mower battery charges. Then when i'm done with that I just but the mower battery back in and finish up the lawn. I never bag my grass and will say the ego mower does not mulch as well as my honda gas mower. But I still prefer the ego.
I have a 6-year old Honda gas mower. At the time I purchased it most battery powered mowers couldn't hold a charge long enough for me to completely mow my yard. When I finally replace it I will be getting a battery powered machine. I have a Ryobi string trimmer and really like it. These are Consumer Reports highest rated mowers; Push mowers Self propelled mowers
That's amazing, because fences are the main drawback to a robot mower. Not really an issue for me but for some others I know. My mower paid for itself in 9 months. I'm on year 4 now
One other caution…. I’ve said this before, but my first stint into battery powered lawn equipment, I went with Greenworks. Hedge trimmer, weed eater, pole saw, and chainsaw. About 12 months after I bought my equipment, they came out with a new line with differnt batteries. They stopped making my batteries and they became hard, then impossible to find. I got about 5 years use of them before I had to throw it all away because I couldn’t get batteries and no one would recell them… my father in law had the same thing happen with black and decker lawn equipment. Those electric motors can last for decades, but they all ended up in the trash…. I went with dewalt for my second set because their line is interchangeable with their hand tools and so popular that if they ever stop making these batteries there will be a thriving knock off market…. Consider the “planned obsolescence” that these small manufacturers can pull on you before buying …
Yep. I have a mixture in my fleet. Still gas mower. Bought her in 2007 and still crushing it. Like the gas weed eater (Husqvarna). On my second but the first crushed it for the use (and I do have a chain saw extension). But have electric Kobalt hedger/blower/chain saw and they have been great. Was really considering an electric weed eater last week when we purchased a rental house. But went with the gas Husqvarna.
You would have been better off cutting the grass rather than blowing more smoke. Mowing the grass is about as therapeutic a thing as you can find nowadays.
I would think it will be quite awhile before you have to upgrade. My experience with the Honda lawnmowers is that they last forever.
I retired in 2023 and just sold our house. Renting a very nice townhome right now, I think my lawncare days are behind me. Doesn't make me sad.
I have a larger piece of property that requires a rider and I'm not ready to trust the E versions of that. Still pouring gas in my Husqvarna But for the ditch line I got an electric push mower. Its just a Kobalt from Lowes. Runs on two batteries and does just fine. I have several of their E yard tools.
This. I have a 14 year old that my wife keeps begging me to put in the mower...but, I LOVE putting the Rays game on and enjoying the outdoors on my mower. Takes about 2.5 hours which is just about right for the game.
