I don't think Tesla's performance is his top priority. Colonizing mars is his top priority and Trump was the means to cutting pesky regulations and investigations that were slowing him down in that goal.

I seriously wonder if Elon finally shut the heck up with his "smartest guy in the room schtick" and actually listened to his companies executives and major investors/shareholders who were hoping Musk could convince Trump to stop being an idiot, which we all know is absolutely impossible.
