Moved from 1/2+ acre of St Augustine to a much smaller patch of Bermuda. Looking for a battery powered self-propelled mower. So far I’ve looked at the Stihl, EGo, and Ryobi. I figured the folks on Too Hot would be great people to ask ……. anyone have any experience with these brands and/or recommendations on these three or any others. Thanks in advance for you comments ….. and when I register to vote, Ima registering independent.
The lawn tools and machines are an area that are very ready for EVs to take the lead... I like EV yard equipment, but I still want the freedom to make that decision for myself.
I have the ego blower and the ego trimmer; I am satisfied with both. I'm still using a gas lawnmower, so I look forward to seeing how others respond to you.
For the past 9 years we co-owned a 32” Hustler ZTR with our next door neighbor and it was a great mower. Don’t need that now and won’t be mowing as much or often, so I think battery is the way to go. I sold my Stihl Kombi gas power head and bought the commercial battery power head and it works great. So far I’ve had good luck with battery powered yard equipment,
I just realized my lawn is currently being mowed while I sit here wasting time on Too Hot. Good stuff.
I first got acquainted to EV yard equipment when my lawn guy switched over to all electric tools. They're so quiet that I fell in love with them instantly. I had no idea that they had electric industrial grade yard equipment, that was about 6 years ago.
I have the Stihl mower and it works great. One battery last for the entire yard plus a little. Get two batteries and have one at the ready so the other one can charge. I also have the battery head unit with a blower, edger and weed eater attachments. Also works the chainsaw. Nice thing about the mower is that when it hits thicker grass it speeds up then when it gets to lower areas it slows down saving battery life. Even when the battery dies and the blade doesn't spin, there is still enough power for the self propelled wheels to work. My lawn is green but I wouldn't exactly call it grass.
I have two robot lawn mowers. One is 14 years old, and the other is 16 years old. I've spent waaaaay too much money on them both though.
I've got an old 19hp 42" Ariens lawn tractor....Seems like I've had it damn near 20 years and it just keeps chugging along. Guess it's a race to see which one of us lasts the longest.
I bought an electric chainsaw and it's been incredibly efficient. I went DeWalt for two reasons: 1. It was arguably the best available e chainsaw at that time 2. I wanted to plug into an ecosystem and I figured / am hoping/ have bet that DeWalt will survive and still be standing when the dust settles.
I had no idea these were even a thing. Anyway, I looked them up on Amazon and showed them to Hubs, and he said save the money, that's what kids and grandkids are for.
For ego equipment you better register the batteries and charger when you buy them. I didn't because I had used kobalt before and all you had to do was return an item to Lowe's and they would replace it if it failed. With ego you have to register them. Had a battery go bade after one year and didn't have it registered so im out of luck. Replacing a battery is a few bucks less than buying a new piece of equipment that comes with a battery and charger. Otherwise been very happy with ego blower, trimmer and hedge trimmer. No more messing with carbs or fuel mix

Gas mower is my only non battery powered tool left… my st. Augustine grass is so thick that my gas mower struggles with it after a week’s growth. Not sure a battery powered mower could handle it. Maybe a robotic one and set it run every 3 days….
Husqvarna’s also makes self opening gates for their’s if you have a fence and cant leave an opening in it because of dogs or something…
