There was an implication that this was in response to an Egyptian being responsible for the attack in Colorado. No idea if that is true or not. Interesting list of countries banned, however if he is trying to prevent terrorists since neither Egypt nor Saudi Arabia are on that list of banned countries. good point. Perhaps they will require those countries to field teams that aren't made up of random people. This way they would be known entities.
I'm pretty sure hosting requires fans from those countries being able to attend, I'm assuming there are already exceptions for players and staff
Money is made by fans coming and buying tickets, staying in hotels, having sex with hookers, consuming legendary amounts of booze, etc.
Look at the state of US diplomacy. About half of ambassadorships are open: Ambassadors of the United States - Wikipedia & most of the rest are career civil-service holdovers from the Biden administration. Trump/Rubio have only gotten 11 appointments for 13 countries through! (France/Monaco and Italy/San Marino do double duty.)
